Monday, June 11, 2007 It is hard to believe that 6 months ago at 8:00 in the morning we walked into a hotel lobby in Guiyang, Guizhou China and met our beautiful Claire. She didn’t cry at all and she even smiled a little. This has been the adoption that everyone dreams of. Claire has bonded to each one of our family members exceptionally well. Her language skills are great. She counts to 9, knows some of her letter sounds, and all of her colors. Three months Claire was very easily potty-trained. Most of all, this little girl fills each of our days with joy and laughter. She is so happy all the time. Claire started taking gymnastics with a toddler class and she loves it. She listens very closely to the teacher’s directions and tries all the new skills. She has very good large and fine motor skills. Jumping on the trampoline is probably her favorite activity. On April 21, Claire turned 2 ½ and since we had missed her first 2 birthdays, we had a small birthday party at home for her. She loved all her presents and especially the chocolate cake! Claire is so used to having her picture made by us, our family and our good friends the Lowerys, that we call ourselves the paparazzi. Now, Claire has turned the camera on us and has found an old camera that she can play with and she loves to snap our pictures constantly. Matter-of-fact, she was continually “taking” Connor’s picture at his recent 5th grade graduation. She even gets down on one knee and turns her camera up for the vertical shot. She also gives us props to hold, or directions of where or how to stand. We may have a budding photographer on our hands. Chase, Connor, and Laura are all out of school for the summer and Claire is clearly enjoying having them at home everyday. She adores her brothers and her sister and they adore her right back. We are a truly blessed family and we are convinced that God chose this child for us. She is a perfect fit! We can’t remember what we did for fun before Claire came home. Six months have come and gone so quickly, and yet it feels like she has always been in our lives. I suppose it is because she lived in our hearts for so many months before.
