We have now had Claire for over one year and it feels fantastic
to say that! Being at the 13 month mark means that we have no
more “first holidays” with Claire. We have experienced them all!
Last year we were still recovering a bit from the trip and
getting to know each other so we didn’t take part in a Chinese
New Year celebration, but we are looking forward to that for
this year. We have our lanterns and both girls have red
traditional dresses ready for the occasion.
Christmas was wonderful and Claire enjoyed it to the fullest.
She got to see a whole bunch of her cousins, aunts, uncles,
great-aunts, great-uncles, grandmas, grandpas, and even
great-grandmas and a great grandpa. We are blessed to have a
very large extended family on both sides. Every present was a
huge hit and she never forgot that it was “Jesus’ birthday
cake.” (Her way of saying Jesus’ birthday!)
Laura got an I-Pod shuffle for Christmas and Claire has been
borrowing it and walking around the house singing Hannah Montana
songs and songs from the Broadway show Wicked. (A show about
what happened in Oz before Dorothy arrived.) She still loves
musicals. We took her to see Enchanted twice and the second time
she was trying to sing along with the songs. Claire also got a
Hannah Montana doll from our good friends the Lowerys and she
loves to sing along with it too. Hannah Montana is quite popular
at our house! (Much to the chagrin of our boys.)
Since Claire turned 3 in October, she loves to ask people their
age. Instead of asking “How old are you?” She asks, “What’s your
number?” At Christmas she was asking a lot of people “their
numbers” and she asked James’ father, “Papaw, what’s your
number?” When he truthfully answered her, she turned and looked
back at the rest of us with her hands on each side of her face
and said, “That’s a big number!”
The kids have gone back to school now, and Claire has adjusted
to being an only child for a few hours a day again. She really
enjoys having them home. While waiting to pick-up Connor in the
car-pool lane at school one day the temperature was 14 degrees
with a wind chill of 6! I told Claire, “Look at that silly
Connor. He doesn’t even have his jacket zipped up.” She looked
over at him and said, “Yeah, that crazy Connor needs to put his
roof up too!” It was a good day for a hood! She keeps us
laughing for sure.
