Saturday, December 16, 2006 This morning we woke up in our third and final province…Guangzhou, China! We are staying at the Marriot China Hotel and it is by far the nicest yet. We were so happy last night to meet up with all of our friends again at the airport, and had a wonderful day spending time with them and their newly adopted children (having a McDonald’s right across the street was also a plus!). Saturday started out pretty rough for the babies (and parents) as we traveled to Shamian Island for our children’s physical examinations. Being poked, prodded, weighed, and measured made for a pretty traumatic morning, but after shedding a couple of pounds in tears (see photo), Claire’s examination was complete. After the exam, we loaded up for the short drive to the famous Shamian Island shopping district where many wonderful stores awaited us. By the end of the day, we were a little lighter on American and Chinese money, but had obtained many wonderful treasures for our family and friends back home. Claire was especially happy because Mommy found her a few pairs of “squeaky shoes” that—you guessed it—squeak with every little pitter patter. We can’t wait to go back tomorrow to pick up some of the hand-made traditional Chinese garments that Little Claire can wear with pride. We only have four more “wake ups” before we’re reunited with our children back home, and we just can’t wait for them (and you!) to meet the newest member of our family.
