It is Sunday night (10 December) just before midnight as we
compose this message. This has been a 20-hour day so far for us
since we’ve been up since 4:00 a.m.!! Our day started with a
trip to the Beijing International Christian Fellowship Church
for Sunday Service. After this, we traveled to the Beijing Pearl
Market where we did some shopping for some beautiful Chinese
pearls (this is the best place to purchase pearls as there are
many counterfeits elsewhere).
We then went to a restaurant where
among roasted lamb, fish, rice, and steamed vegetables, we
enjoyed such favorites as “America Hot Dog”, “Butter Spaghetti”,
and what we believed to be French fries. We welcomed their “best
stab” at some good old-fashioned Western food!
Once we finished
our meal off with some “Coke Light” (diet Coke), we ventured to
the Emperor’s Summer Palace. The place was overwhelming
beautiful (even in winter-like temperatures). Ancient ornate
buildings, rock formations, statues, and a huge lake made this a
very memorable experience.
Street vendors are everywhere! All throughout our trip thus far,
we have been almost mobbed by enterprising Chinese nationals who
have attempted to sell us everything from “Rolex” watches, to
2008 Olympic gear. We’ve never seen a more persistent sales
force in all our lives! James has found a bargain once or twice
and already has his eyes on another suitcase to bring some of
his treasures home.
We ended our last day in Beijing with a trip
to the airport where we said goodbye (until Friday) to the 10
other families who we’ve been with thus far as we flew to
different provinces to adopt our children.
We go to bed tonight
knowing we meet our daughter first thing in the morning!! God
has been so good to us! The next time we post, you will see
pictures of Claire! |
