Today went even better than yesterday! Claire slept almost 11 hours last night and didn’t even wake up once. She woke up ready to put new clothes on and she has been a very happy girl ever since. I forgot to mention in yesterday’s post that she is used to being called Ling Ling. We are calling her Ling Ling now and sometimes adding Claire to the end. We will eventually drop the Ling Ling when we feel she is used to Claire.
Our guide Fontana is wonderful. She translated all of the questions we had sent ahead to the orphanage director for us today. She also told us that Claire’s Chinese name means “a unique clever girl”. We think this really fits her. Fontana spent quite a bit of time in the room with us today and she says that Claire is saying quite a bit of Chinese. When she saw a picture of a horse in a book she immediately said “Ma” which is Mandarin for horse. She was also saying the Mandarin word for oops all day and we didn’t know until Fontana told us what it meant.

After doing a bit of paperwork today, we ventured out to a Wal-Mart. We can’t wait for Chris to see the video! We were able to stock up on some milk and snacks for the room and eat at KFC. Tomorrow morning we are going to a museum and then off to do some shopping. This province is rich in minorities and therefore, there are a lot of things available here that are not available in other provinces. Our guide went out yesterday and was very excited at some quality items she was able to get that are all handmade.

We are very blessed that Claire has bonded well with both of us. She will let either one of us hold her, and she thinks her Baba is great fun to play with. She absolutely loves books and she will sit and look at one for a long time. We read Good Night Moon to her just a few times, and now when she sees the page with the old lady on it she says, “shhh” and puts her little finger up to her mouth. (If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you can read the book.)

We are looking forward to getting to Guangzhou and seeing the rest of our group with their children. We all got very close in a short period of time. After that, we get to come home and see Chase, Connor, Laura, and all of our family and friends. Thanks to all of you who are taking the time to put such nice comments on our guestbook. Claire will have a CD of this website so that when she is older she can look back and see all the good wishes her friends and family have sent her way.
