Today was spent visiting the countryside around Nanchang in the
morning, with lunch and shopping back in the city in the
afternoon.
Our group left the hotel right after breakfast. It took us about
30-45 minutes to get out of town and into the more rural parts
of the surrounding area. We visited a small town that was very
similar to the type of place that Grace was raised in. We had
envisioned substantial poverty, but as you walk through the
village and meet with the locals, you quickly discover that
while they do live without the simple things that we take for
granted like heat and power, they are all happy and content and
have more hospitality anyone I know (ourselves included).
Everyone had a smile on their face and were eager to invite you
into their simple dirt floor homes.
The surprising feeling that it left us with was that while we
know we are giving Grace a better life, we can’t help hope that
we can only do as well as these people giving her the qualities
we saw in each one of them.
We left the village and drove back to Nanchang for lunch and a
little shopping before heading back to the hotel.
We fly to Guangzhou day after tomorrow to complete the adoption
process, so we’re getting ready to move again.
Everyone here is feeling great. The boys are enjoying the trip
thoroughly!
