Well we just completed our first full day in China and it was
eventful to say the least!! First of all we woke up at 4:30 am
and decided to go see when breakfast started, as soon as we got
off the elevator we woke up the hotel worker and scared his
pants off. The breakfast buffet was amazing, Tom informed me he
had started his new diet called the “See Food Diet” pretty much
no restrictions-whatever he sees he puts right in his mouth! I
was in coffee heaven-they have the best coffee, I think I had
about 10 cups at breakfast! We had a little time to kill before
our guide came so we ventured off down another alley I thought
looked interesting. I love it-but it is killing me that I can’t
get the scoop on all of these people-I just want to talk to them
and ask them a million questions!
Wang meet us outside the hotel and off we headed for the Great
Wall. Once again Tom was so generous and gave me the front seat.
Ok-this time I really thought I was going to die, I probably
didn’t help because I was trying to talk to Wang by using my
Chinese book and for some reason he just laughed at me. The
drive up to the Wall was so pretty I really think it could give
Lake Tahoe a run for its money. We rode a Cable Car up the
mountain and I so wish I wasn’t afraid of heights so I could
have looked out the window because I am sure it was beautiful.
Tom totally enjoyed the ride and the chance to scare me more by
rocking the car. Once we were out of the car and climbing I
couldn’t believe how beautiful it was, at one point I stopped
and thought how cool it would be for Third Day to perform on the
Great Wall—Your love oh Lord, reaches to the heavens, your
faithfulness, stretches to the skies. Your righteousness is like
the mighty mountains---as we continued to climb down I was
amazed how many people were there. We decided to take an alpine
slide down to the bottom and it was so fun!!! We only wish the
girls in front of us would have gone faster, probably better
they didn’t or I might have gotten injured on a curve! Once at
the bottom Tom’s friends greeted me with their axes! Driving
back into Beijing we got in a little fender bender-the bad part
is Tom and I both saw it coming but didn’t know how to tell
Wang. So Wang jumped out of his car, gave the other man 5 bucks
and we were on our way again. The rest of the time in the car I
decided to read my Bible and guess what scripture God had me
read---Psalm 36—The scripture that matches the Third Day song.
So cool, I had goose bumps!
From the wall Wang took us to the Pearl Market-WOW!! I walked in
and my heart skipped many beats. I was surrounded with purses,
shoes and jewelry the only problem was I was with 2 boys! I need
to say both boys were very patient with me and my inability to
make a decision. Ok, so I thought I was a pretty good bargain
finder but I was totally overwhelmed and Tom said I had the deer
in headlights look going on. I simply found a pair of shoes I
liked and the lady said 670 and Wang said no and we walked away
and of course she followed us saying ok, ok to make a long story
short the last time I walked away I had 5 girls grabbing my arm
pulling me back saying “you buy”! I could see Tom out of the
corner of my eye just laughing not helping his poor wife! We
walked to the next shop and Wang said “you listen to me!!!” I
guess I flunked the shopping bargaining class. We only got to
stay there 1 hour so I am determined to go back and learn to
bargain!!
We dropped our stuff in the hotel room and headed out on foot to
find food! The hotel worker told us about a restaurant that had
pictures on the menu so we thought we had this dinner licked! We
sat down and started flipping through the menu, and I was so
shocked!! I know I saw every body part of a cow listed on the
menu-even the private parts; it makes me giggle to write it!
Anyway right away Tom picked out Rabbit and I thought I picked
basic chicken and rice. The waitress was confused why we wanted
3 things, but we thought nothing of it! Well, when it arrived at
the table we understood why she questioned the 3 items- We had
so much food we could have feed everyone in the restaurant! Of
course Tom dove right in, but I just couldn’t after I saw all
the bones of the rabbit in the bowl. And we are pretty sure we
saw a chicken eye ball. |
I think we could flip it Lis!
Enjoying the view
This definitely beats my honeymoon camping in November!
Hang on to your pants or just scream all the way down!
Tom’s hit men caught me at the bottom!
