Tuesday, October 3, 2006 We finally arrived safely in Beijing! I am so glad I don’t have to get back on the plane for awhile- that is way too long to sit in one little spot. I was feeling kind of envious of the business class passengers so I tried to sweet talk my way into the business class section, but they said NO! In Beijing our guide was standing right outside of Starbucks with our names written out on a sheet of paper. He is so kind but speaks very very little English! We made it to the hotel with only one little scary adventure on the way, I gasped and the driver just laughed! Once we checked into our room we decided to venture out and find some food! I found a great alley way with lots of side vendors so Tom said lets eat, but I just could not venture that far yet! We visited a little market to get some noodles and the workers must have thought I was a thief or maybe they have never seen such big hair, but 2 girls followed me everywhere, just me and not Tom. I thought I would be friendly and say Hi well that was super funny to them because they couldn’t stop laughing at me. We ended up just eating back at our hotel. We figured that would be pretty easy and safe. I just laugh writing this to think of how stupid we must look to our waitress. We had great food and we ate the whole thing with no fork!!! After paying for our bill we were trying to figure out if we were supposed to tip or not? Well, we made the mistake of asking our waitress and before you know it we had four people around us talking about tips. Oh, my goodness-we have so much to learn!! We are so tired so we are calling it a night. Tomorrow we leave early for the Wall so hopefully I will have better pictures! Thank you so much for all of your prayers!
