June Update  |  August Update

Chinese Name: Hu Yi Lin
Born: April 19, 2004
Province: Zhejiang
Current residence: With a foster family in Hangzhou, China
Height: 32 inches*
Weight: 21 pounds*
*as of February 2006

When we saw Zoë’s picture we instantly knew she was our daughter. I couldn’t wait to kiss those sweet lips!!! Our little angel Zoë, was born 4/19/04 and was found at the front entrance gate of the orphanage on May 28, 2004. Zoë weighted 9 pounds at her first check-up in the orphanage and they diagnosed her with in-born heart disease (Fallot Tetrad) and persistent foramen ovale. On Nov 3 2004 the repair surgery to fix her Fallot Tetrad and close the oval foramen was conducted at TaiDa International Angiocardiopathy Hospital of Tian Jing City.

In the first report we got on Zoë we were told she was active, restless, a sound sleeper, fond of imitating, fond of listening to music, always has a smile, and her favorite toy is anything that makes noise. She can eat without help, walk around in her walker-cart, and laughs aloud. When she locates her caretaker she has a broad smile.

On Feb 10th 2006 we got an updated report on Zoë and 2 new pictures. Now she weights 21 lbs and is 32 inches tall. Her current test of lungs and her heart is normal. She can walk now and can run slowly. She expresses her likes and dislikes by pointing to her food or toys. She can say “Aunt” and “good bye” and she knows her own name. She can also point to her eyes, nose and mouth when she is asked. She likes to go places bustling with noise and excitement (I knew she was perfect for our family!) She loves to watch TV and she likes to independently visit her little playmates (a little Bailey!).

Her personality was described as active and outgoing. She loves to laugh, likes to play with other kids, loves to listen to music, smart, agile and alert and she loves to play all out-door activities! She is totally a Nowlin kid!

"For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11

Poem-Dear Sweet Daughter by Gayle Leobedin
As a girl I had a common dream, to be a mom someday
My baby would have eyes of blue and hair the hue of hay.
But now my dreams have been transformed. New visions fill my head.
Now the tresses that I long to stroke are raven black instead.

And in my dreams those eyes are not so big or blue or round.
Now in my dreams they are almond shaped and colored cocoa brown
And in my dreams my arms can stretch across enormous seas
They reach halfway around the world and hold you close to me.

As you grow in your mothers womb, carefully knit together,
You’re also growing in my heart, where you will stay forever.
And in my dreams the moment that you mother says good-bye
I’ll be right there to comfort you and hold you as you cry.

Our features may not look alike, were different as can be.
But still I know the Father has created you for me.
And though I’ve not yet seen your face or held your tiny hands.
And though were half a world apart in very different lands.

I’ll be right there to get you just as soon as God allows.
But till he says the time is right I’ll give to you this vow.
I’ll pray for your protection every night on bended knee
For God will hold you in his arms until you are here with me!
