Trip to China
All Days  |  Previous Day  |  Next Day

Thanks to modern technology I was able to take my camera’s memory stick across the street to the photomax and have a cd made of all the pictures which I then brought back to the hotel room and downloaded onto Jeff’s laptop.

We started off the morning with passport photos and then medical exams. The exams were very sophisticated. For hearing, a rubber frog was squeezed to see if the baby would turn to the sound. Then, a keyboard was played to see if she also turned to that sound. Ears were looked into, weight, height and head circumference were listed. And then a stethoscope was brought out to check heart and lungs. Amazingly, after that in depth medical investigation, all babies were declared healthy. Yeah! We all celebrated with a little more shopping, our last opportunity on Shamian Island. The babies then all got dressed in their finest Asian wear to have the traditional “red couch” photo at the White Swan Hotel. If it weren’t for her buddy Max, Lucy would have crawled right off those cushions and back to me before any photos were taken. We head a really great lunch given by CHI and Lucy tried some of her first semi-solid foods. She ate egg custard, red bean cakes, barbecue pork finely chopped, and some fried rice. Her favorite was Max’s b-day cake. Lucy’s personality shines brighter everyday. I am amazed that Jeff and I could be so blessed with 3 such wonderful children! People have questioned, in general, if a person could love an adopted child as much as a biological child. The answer is yes. My heart is so full of love for Lucy. She is mine regardless of what manner she was placed in my arms. I feel like the luckiest mom ever! It also really helps to have a great husband like Jeff, who I know feels the same way about our children.

For anyone interested in coming to the airport to greet Lucy, you are more than welcome! We arrive Saturday morning. You can get details from Jeff. First, you should know that I will smell not so pleasant. China sort of gets in your pores. Follow that up with 24 hours on a plane and you may not want to get too close. Lucy is used to being in big groups because of our travel group here, but because the bonding process still continues, no one else will be able to hold her. We would also like to ask that no one visits for the first week while we all get adjusted to our new life together. I think it may be a little overwhelming for Lucy those first few days. Lucy can’t wait to meet all her faithful followers! I am also anxious to see some loving faces.

Cade and Coby,

A chicken it is, or shall I say was. We ate it the other day. I was going to show you the picture but once again I’ve got too many others. You’ll have to wait until I get home to see the chicken head on the dinner plate. Mommy loves when you ask to talk to Lucy on the phone. I think it is so cool that she stops crying as soon as she hears your voice. You guys are all going to have so much fun together. Guess what. Today at lunch, it was Max’s 5th birthday and we got to eat the cake first. Should we do that on Lucy’s birthday? Eat dessert first? In two more days I get on the airplane to come home. I love you both all the way to the moon and back! Today I am thinking of an animal that howls at answering machines.
