How the other half lives…
December 4, 2005

Today we took a trip a further out of Guangzhou to a more rural area.  It was amazing to spend time in such a different culture from our own. The people were friendly and happy even though they live in what we would call poverty.  It truly made us thankful for all we have.

We continue to have a great time here, even though the weather has turned colder.  JacJac loves having our undivided attention, but I'm afraid she's in for a rude awakening when we get home and she has to share Daddy with Bekah and Logan.  But more than once we've realized what a perfect fit she is for our family.  We truly believe that God hand-picked her to be with us (or hand-picked us to be with her!).  We can't wait to get home and have our family together.

Much love,
Kevin & Janie

You know you're in trouble when your guide is lost…

This old lady was so delighted to see us.  She came out of her house giving us a thumbs up and wanted to kiss the girls.  She was so excited when I was able to show her this picture on my digital camera.

The children from this village swarmed to us, practicing the English phrases they knew.  "Hello.  How are you?"
"What's your name?" "Have a nice day."

Father and daughter at a table and chairs set carved out of tree trunks.

She even let mommy hold her some again today…

Every time we get in a car we spend most of the time praying for our lives.  Everyone completely disregards traffic laws here and basically drive wherever they want to.  This is one of the thousands and thousands of motorcycles on the road, albeit a little more weighed down than most.
