March Update

JacJac had her lip surgery on March 22nd. The entire process ended up being much less of a deal than we thought it would be. The most difficult part was keeping our little girl with the hollow leg from eating anything before her surgery. Since the surgery wasn’t until 1:00pm, she was very hungry and cranky that morning!!

The surgery itself took about an hour. They removed some of the scar tissue from the inside of her lip, so that we would be able to see her upper teeth when she smiles. They also did a hearing test and cleared out some earwax (there was so much that the doctor thinks she probably did not have full hearing in either ear until the wax was cleaned out!). We were able to be with her immediately as she was coming out of the anesthesia, which left her disoriented, but not sick to her stomach. She ate a pop cycle almost immediately and just a couple hours after surgery downed a bowl of Ramen noodles.

JacJac is one tough little camper! They gave a prescription for pain medication, but she was never even fussy so we didn’t use it. Janie’s mom came up to be around just in case JacJac needed some extra cuddling, but she was running around from the moment we got home from the hospital. But it was great that Mimi and Granddad could be with us for a few days and were able to stay for the baby dedication service at our church that Sunday.

The last weekend of the month we went to Williamsburg for a mini-vacation. We spent a couple of days at King’s Dominion theme park. For the first time JacJac was able to see for herself what her big brother has been talking and pretending about for months: roller coasters. As she watched the roller coasters, her eyes got big and she said, “Ro-ro. Wheeeeeee!!” And then repeated it 1000 times. Fun was had by all! A couple more days at an indoor water park made for a perfect vacation…

JacJac in the waiting room before her surgery. They had lots of toys to keep her distracted from the fact that she hadn’t eaten in hours. She refused to take off her shoes or hat. They had to put her to sleep and then take them off in order not to upset her.

Immediately after surgery…

Hangin’ out with Granddad a couple of days later.
Her lip was still a little swollen, but that didn’t stop her
from running around and playing.

Dressed up for the JacJac’s dedication at church.

Standing in line, waiting for the “ro-ro”.
JacJac was too little to ride, but she didn’t mind waiting with
Bekah, Logan, Mommy, and Daddy.

Fun at the Great Wolf Lodge!!
