Hello Everyone,
I am giving Meg the day off so you will have to put up with my
post!
Miyah went to sleep last night at about 6:00 pm and slept until
2:30 a.m. when she woke up crying. We felt so bad for her, we
could tell she is still confused about this whole deal. After a
few hours of comforting and rocking, she settled back down. I
looked over at her crib at the break of dawn and she was quietly
talking to herself and playing with her feet. It is as if she
was a little more comfortable hanging around with us and she
might stay around for a few more days!
We headed down to breakfast where Miyah did a great job of
eating her congee and watermelon and then headed out as a group
to the August 1st park in the center of town. The park is where
they celebrate the victory of the black party of the communist
movement. It was a very beautiful park that has paths the ramble
around the lakes with gazebos and such where the local people
play and sing music and exercise together. Miyah just loves to
be carried by Meg and keeps a close eye on the rest of us. The
local people we have met have been so kind and generous to us.
Even though we cannot communicate in the same language, the
smiles and approving nods and gestures we received let us all
know that we can understand each other perfectly.
After the park, we went to WalMart to stock up the basic
supplies for ourselves and the babies. One note of interest at
WalMart, the aisles and narrower than we are used to and in turn
the shopping carts are about ¾ scale of the carts we use here.
The cool part is that the all four wheels of the carts turn
which makes them very maneuverable. DJ and Max realized this
very quickly and decided that they made great “drifters” for
those of you who know what I am talking about. It is not like
that these two boys do not attract enough attention already!
We wanted to thank everyone so much for sending us your
comments. It means everything to us to feel connected to
everyone back home. We started our journey some time ago and
thought we would never get to Miyah. Like Meg said yesterday in
her post, it is impossible to put into words of what the
experience of gotcha day was like. Meg, Carrigan, DJ and I have
completely and madly fallen in love with this little girl on the
other side of the world. By the hour, she is slowing giving
herself to us with the slightest of gestures that do not go
unnoticed.
We took some amazing photo’s and videos of Miyah yesterday when
we finally received her but the most important photo is the one
that has been left in my memory forever. It is of my wonderful
wife Meg, my beautiful daughter Carrigan, my dashing son DJ and
my newest empress Miyah as we all started our lives together as
a bigger family. I am extremely blessed and feel like the
luckiest man on earth.
