GOTCHA DAY!

Today was one of those days where time stood still, the minutes ticked by so slowly and we had a lot to accomplish to meet our daughter. The morning started at 5:45 am in the lobby and off to the airport. We had to fly from Beijing to Nanchang and get to our hotel. The airport is massive and the Chinese are very quick moving and have very different ways of maneuvering through the airport.

We arrived in Nanchang to our new guide, Jenny. She greeted us and the other family we were traveling to Jiangxi with (The Demonte’s from New Jersey). On our 40-minute ride to the Crowne Plaza Nanchang, we learned about the Jiangxi Province. Jiangxi is the porcelain capital of China. It is also a large agriculture hub producing peppers and a manufacturer of paper as well.

We were told Libby was being driven to Nanchang by the Social Welfare Institute’s Director and 2 “Aunties”. It was a 3-hour trip, challenged by snow and slippery roads. She was delayed by 3 hours! We waited for the phone to ring and when it did, our hearts jumped out of our bodies! A knock on the hotel room and our lives changed forever. In came these 3 women with our baby---OUR BABY!! Libby was sad and scared and crying. We were all in a tizzy as we tried to make a bottle, ask questions and thank these women for their care, all while being translated by Jenny. It was a hard landing for Libby, at first. I wept as I thanked them for this baby, for this chance to be her Mom. The Director, Ms. Li said, “we can tell it’s the right match”. They left and we consoled her, rocked her, and held her tight. Libby began to calm down and stopped crying. She finally took a bottle once the “baby whisperer” (Brynn) stepped in. She was content, and fell asleep for the night.

We sat and stared at her as she slept. It was as if 6 ½ years of waiting never existed. It feels so right, and a sense of peace has washed over us. She’s with her family, finally—forever!

Libby was so sad!
This was the moment she was put in my arms
