So today was the medical exam and blood draw. I think it was
harder for mommy than it was for Kaden...but daddy held it
together for all of us. It was at a very nice medical facility
and they had families everywhere with their adopted children
going from one room to the next. It started in a room where we
had to take a visa photo (this was actually probably the hardest
part). Kaden did not want to sit on the chair, did not want to
sit still, did not want to look and the camera and was getting
very upset (we're telling you, he does not like to take
pictures!). So his picture looks a little bit like a mug shot.
The second step was in a room with a Doctor who did an ear, nose
and throat exam. I definitely had to hold Kaden down and try to
hold his head during the exams because he was tossing it from
side to side...but there were no tears (in fact, he kinda
thought it was funny).
Next step was another room with a different Doctor who listened
to his heart, checked all the body parts and did head
circumference measurement. Kaden did great through this part and
just looked a little confused and bewildered.
Then off to the nurses station. This was for temperature, height
and weight. They had to take him from my arms to lay him on a
scale in the nurses station (only about 10 feet away...but felt
like a mile). It was bittersweet for me. He started to cry and
looked scared. I felt bad, but my heart just soared with joy
when he turned and tried to reach back for me...he wanted ME! I
was Mommy! No better feeling in the world!
Last stop was the dreaded blood draw. And as I prepared myself,
they came and told us that they take the children in and draw
blood without the parents. A true blessing for us. We know when
we get back to the states we'll have a lot of doctor's
appointments and probably more blood draws...and we know we'll
get through them...and we do want to be holding him and
comforting him through the bad stuff (we're just glad we weren't
associated with any of the bad stuff today). When he came out of
the room he had two big tears on his face, but seemed okay- he's
a tough little dude!
That was it, then back to the hotel. We are now staying at "The
China Hotel" which is a Marriott and is absolutely gorgeous.
It's like a whole little city in the hotel, with amazing food,
amazing landscaping and they even had a little kids play area
where we took Kaden. Loved the slide, hated the swing. He really
doesn't like being strapped in anything or confined in anything.
Sure looking forward to trying him in a carseat on the way home
from the airport when we get back (sorry Mom and Dad
Oliver...it's not going to be a pleasant or quiet ride home with
us).
At the orphanage they had all the kids have TV time, so we have
tried to keep his schedule somewhat. He isn't interested for
long, but when he watches TV he is adorable and gets as close as
possible (I know...I know...not good for the eyes)...but he's
just so cute! Tonight was Charlie Brown's Christmas. |
