Friday,
January 4, 2013
This could possibly be one of the longest days of our lives. The
flight was uneventful but long! By the time we landed it was
just past midnight on the 4th. We lost a whole day, which was
weird.
We ended up at the Poly Plaza hotel around 2am after meeting our
guide Grace and the DeForest family from Louisiana at the
airport. We took the advice from a wise person that said, just
follow the time zone you're in. We all "slept" and got up and at
'em at our regular time.
We ventured to Starbucks (of course) and then to Wu Mart for
bottled water. The real fun began after that. We went on a tour
of the oldest area of Beijing (Hutong District) and had lunch at
the home of Mr. Liu and family. It was so interesting and the
food was great!
We then took a rickshaw tour and ended up at the drum tower. We
climbed nearly 70 steps to watch the drum show. We then went to
a traditional Chinese tea ceremony and learned a ton about tea.
Finally, an acrobatic show and then back to the hotel. Wow,
we're pooped!
Tomorrow--The Forbidden City, The Great Wall and Tiananmen
Square! 2 more sleeps to Libby!
