TRAVEL TO CHINA
We arrived safely in Beijing. We are finally in China!!!! This
morning, or was it yesterday morning (?), we loaded three
suitcases, a bin of donations for China Care, and two carry-ons
into our Highlander and set off for Newark Airport. From there
it seemed that everything was on our side – the luggage was
checked without overweight issues thanks to a wonderfully
helpful porter. The plane boarded and departed on time and Amy
was able to sleep quite a bit of the flight. At Beijing
Airport it seemed like we breezed through the Health
Checkpoint, Passport Entry and Customs and found both the
China Care and Peninsula Palace staff easily. We handed off a
bin and a suitcase to China Care for orphanage donations then
took a ride from the airport to the hotel. It was certainly
interesting- complete with lots of lane changing, lights
flashing and horn honking, but it seemed safe enough. We were
met at the hotel and whisked to our room where we were checked
in. Both our heads are spinning with how quickly our bags seem
to be whisked away from us and taken where they need to go
here! The cold wind and jet lag kept us from wandering too far
from the hotel, but tomorrow we’re off to explore the Great
Wall and Summer Palace.
Thank you so much to everyone who phoned and emailed us to
wish us a safe journey before we left. Yen Ling and Diane, we
received your messages at the airport right before we boarded!
We boarded the plane feeling so wrapped in the good wishes and
love that you all sent with us and can hardly wait to share
that love with Zoe. It is so incredible to finally be here.
The happy tears keep coming and we keep looking at each other
and saying, “We are in China! We are actually here!” It is
amazing to think that we are for the first time sleeping in
the same country that Zoe is tonight. We are trying to soak in
every moment here in Beijing, but at the same time can hardly
wait to board that plane to Nanchang.
