GOTCHA DAY!

Hello,

We are so happy to introduce our newest family member. Sam and I arrived at the Civil Affairs office at 9:00 and Qian was waiting with her nannies. She is so beautiful. I was surprised to see how petite she was with her height. We are going to have to fatten her up. She colored a Mickey Mouse photo while I completed the adoption papers. The nannies told me that Qian is very shy and when she is comfortable, she is more playful. As Qian walked out the Civil Affairs office, she was slumped over, looking down at the cracked payment. She was so scared. But as the afternoon went on, we began to see this timid girl come out of her shell. Our guide said, “be sure to stick to her schedule, it’s very important.” Well, that lasted for an hour. Qian was so excited to touch and play with her toys and this girl loves to eat. I had to put a limit on her food and drinks. I didn’t want her to get a belly ache. When it was naptime, I closed the blind and tucked her into bed. When I turned my head, she got up and opened the blind and chuckled at me. That is where we fell off the schedule wagon. I tried a few more times to get her to rest, but each time, she went to the window and let the sun in. Sam said, “I don’t think she’s taking a nap today.” You know what? I didn’t blame her. I wouldn’t want to take a nap if someone gave me a bunch of toys and food. From there, I decided to take her swimming. Qian has never been swimming and I did get a few laughs from here before we had to bolt to the bathroom. Qian doesn’t know any English, but she has already learned our names, uh-oh, baby, and water. She repeats everything we say. I caught her copying some numbers I had written on a notepad. Qian also likes to watch t.v. She recites the commercials and smiles. She is a fast learner. Qian especially loves Sammy. She blows him a kiss every fifteen seconds. She also teases him. Sam asked her for a piece of Chinese candy and she threw it on the floor for him to fetch. We chuckled. She also walks by him, points her finger at him, and says a few words in Mandarin. Then she laughs and walks away. Sammy finds this humorous and wonders what she is saying about him. I’m sure it’s funny!

Good Night from Hefei –
Betty and Sam

P.S. Qian loves her doll!
