QIAN IS OFFICIALLY OURS!

We started our day with a wonderful breakfast buffet. As I mentioned in an earlier post, Qian is tall and has the figure of a bean. Today, her eyes lit up as we walked around the buffet. A half smiled formed on Qian’s face as we approached the fruit table. She cautiously pointed to the watermelon. She saw my head nod, yes and her smile grew even bigger. I loaded her plate with kiwi, cantaloupe, and watermelon. She ate every piece of fruit that I put on her plate. After breakfast, Qian wrapped her arms around my waist and squeezed me real tight. I think it was a “thank you” and “I like you” show of emotion wrapped up in one. After breakfast, our guide picked us up. On the way to the Official’s office, we discussed Qian’s behavior. Qian is playing, smiling, teasing, listening, dancing – she’s happy. I wasn’t expecting this. Jiali was the complete opposite. Jiali missed Mama Lu and was so sad to leave the orphanage. Our guide asked Qian, “Do you like your family?” Qian said, “Yes, I like my mama, brother, sister and brothers.” Then the guide explained that the conditions at the orphanage are so difficult for the children and that Qian is happy to have a family, she is not sad. The guide said, you will see the conditions tomorrow, very hard. I still don’t know how soak in this conversation. How bad is bad? What are the conditions? What about the other children?

The guide also said that Qian is not presenting as the referral papers portrayed her. She said that Qian is a quick learner. She is smart and has good manners. I think Qian will surprise us all! Qian is imitating English words and she even copied numbers that I had written on the table. Qian has a bright future of her! And did I mention…. She loves Sammy. The guide asked her what she thought of her gege (brother). Qian said, “He’s handsome.”

After naptime (Naptime is part of the Chinese Culture. Children, students, and adults nap everyday, even during school and work. Sammy loves this idea!) I took Qian to get a haircut. Her hair is extremely thin. She got a traditional little girl’s Chinese haircut and it is so cute. Qian likes her new haircut too. After the haircut, we went to the Lord Boa Park. He lived during the Song Dynasty and accomplished great things for his people in, Hefei. Sammy heard some interesting stories and the park was peaceful.

Well it’s bedtime and Qian just pointed out that she has a loose tooth. I bet the tooth fairy can make her way to China! Maybe Qian will have an apple with her breakfast tomorrow.

Good Night from Hefei –
Betty, Sam, and Qian

P.S.
I will post more pics tomorrow. I am having camera issues today.
