We had a busy day. We started our day visiting a Jade factory.
We watched the workers carve jade and make jewelry and statues.
Then we went to the Great Wall and it was exactly that, Great!
It rained this morning and it was a bit foggy. However, the view
was breathtaking. Sam and I ventured up the steep steps. There
was very little talking on the way up. All you could hear were
heaving and panting sounds. It’s definitely a tough climb and
sweat dribbled down everyone faces. After getting past the first
temple, my legs felt like Jell-O. Sammy kept saying, “Come on,
Mom!” We made it past the second temple and almost to the third.
Climbing down was even harder. I held onto the rail and walked
sideways – slow and steady. After the Great Wall climb, we had
lunch at a Chinese restaurant. The food was delicious and Sammy
tried a lot of new dishes. After lunch we went to the Summer
Palace. This 200 acre park was the emperor’s summer getaway.
While waiting in line to ride the dragon boat, a group of Lama’s
from Tibet asked if we would take a picture with them. I asked
my guide why the Chinese people are so fascinated with us. She
said, “You have light skin and big nose.” Really?? We are now
packing and getting ready for our flight to Anhui tomorrow.
Can’t wait to meet Qian.
Good Night from Beijing,
Betty and Sam |
