ELLA DAY!
Today, we started out with a great breakfast downstairs in our
hotel. The famous White Swan Breakfast Buffet. The place was
packed with American families adopting Chinese children. We had
a pre-adoption meeting at 9:30 with our guide Jocelyn and the
other families in our group. Jocelyn told us that we were going
to be leaving that afternoon around 3:30 to get our babies. I
thought the flight from Los Angeles was long-the 5 hours of
waiting until we left to get Ella felt like years.
We finally left by bus and got stuck in rush hour traffic. We
ended up being late to the Civil Affair Office and were the last
group of families to receive our children. Of course, Ella was
the last one of the children to be brought out. She walked out
to us with a huge smile on her face. She was so beautiful and
cute. She was so good; she came and sat on my lap while we
waited for the paperwork to be finalized. Ella’s nanny was not
to far away from us and when she came to say goodbye, Ella’s
started to scream. Ella cried for about 20 minutes-not just
crying, but screaming and screaming. She finally clamed down
when we got on the bus to come back to the hotel room. We gave
her a bath and brushed her teeth. She was very dirty; she has
bug bites and bruises on her body and we think she has an upper
respiratory infection. She got a new bruise right before the
nannies brought her us-right under her eye; she fell and now has
a black eye.
She is warming up to us. We have her smiling and laughing
tonight. Well, we are off to bed and brush our teeth with
bottled water.
