GOTCHA DAY!
Oh my!!! God is so good! Our "Gotcha Day" could not have gone
any better ! We got up this morning to what had to be the
longest day of our lives. The waiting until 1:30 was truly
almost unbearable for us!! But finally it came, we packed toys,
food, diapers, both cameras, a change of clothes, wipes, books
and our passports that we checked ten times to make sure we had.
We got to the civil affairs office earlier than expected so
while we waited out in the lobby, the enormity of what was about
to happen dawned on Tony and I. I of course became emotional and
Tony of course was very strong and made me more emotional by
hugging me and telling me, "It is finally here! Can you believe
it?" We went in and completed some paperwork and became even
more anxious.
And then it happened, we looked up and there was the most
beautiful little boy in the world, Xiang Qiu Peng... Grayson
Chandler. Lilly, our guide here in Wuhan, said to us..."Look,
there's your son!" He was with the director and an Auntie from
his orphanage. I walked towards them not knowing what exactly to
do and then she came over and handed him to me. Then just what
we prayed for, peace overcame him and he went to sleep right on
my shoulder. Tony did the Dad thing and videoed and snapped
pictures for the most part of the time that we spoke with the
director. She said he was a clever boy. She and the others at
the orphanage created an album for us from when he first came to
the orphanage... such an amazingly thoughtful gift, one we will
truly cherish forever and one we did not even know how to
express our thanks for...so we have pictures of him when he was
really little. It was so amazing sitting there holding our son,
and talking to them about his everyday life at the orphanage.
When he ate, what he ate, when he napped, etc...and at the same
time not being able to hold him close enough. Words truly cannot
express this moment... amazing, incredible, awesome,
unbelievable, just don't seem to do it justice.
We left there and he was still sleeping in his Daddy's arms to
go to the Security place for him to take his picture for his
passport. He woke up just before we got there. He sat on the
stool holding my hand as pretty as you please to have his
picture made. He was very curious, looking around on the way
back to the Civil Affairs office to drop the picture off. We
then went to Wal-Mart...(an experience all of it's own!!!)... to
buy formula, more diapers etc.. for him.
Next we went to dinner with our guide and he ate watermelon,
congee and rice. He was pretty tired and began to get fussy. Up
until this point, he had been amazingly calm! Finally, we came
back to the hotel. Since he got more watermelon on him than he
ate, we put him in the bath tub. He totally loved it and fussed
when he was taken out! He drank some apple juice and then some
formula and off to sleep he went.
We are so thankful that God is such a wonderful, merciful God
that he touched our son and made what had to be a hard
transition so flawless. Thank you all for praying, your prayers
have been answered and so have ours... He is finally here...
sleeping in the crib next to us. |
