We're Home

Oh my... where to begin... WE ARE HOME!!! We began our journey
home from China around 5 am (China time) Wednesday, June 5 in
Guangzhou, China where we got up and headed to the airport to
fly to Beijing. We were concerned about Grayson flying as the
other flight was not so great for him. He once again slept at
take-off and cried quite a bit of the rest of the three-hour
flight. We got to Beijing and recalled our first visit and all
of the unknowns and marveled at how we were "old pros" now. LOL
Grayson had his first Pizza Hut cheese pizza and like so many
other things, he loved it accompanied by his beloved Chicken
Nuggets. After eating, he was most definitely a happy boy. We
were, of course, concerned, about Grayson on the very long
flight home and had asked for many people to cover him in
prayer.. I am happy to report that it could not have possibly
gone any smoother. He played happily for the first couple of
hours, then fell blissfully asleep and slept until we woke him
up at 2 am in hopes that he would sleep some when we got home.
He woke up, played for a couple of hours and went back to sleep
for a couple of hours. Prayers were definitely answered.
When we first got on the flight, he caught the attention of a
particular airline stewardess who went and asked if he could
have his picture with the pilot. So Grayson and I made our way
to the cockpit and together we had a "first" together. We sat in
the pilot's chair and had the pilot take our picture. Of course,
my "gifted child", was already ready to fly the aircraft, he is
just not old enough for the license yet...LOL
We arrived in D.C. at 7:20 or so EST. Where we gave the
incredibly important sealed brown envelope to the immigration
officer. He opened it and stamped it and just like that our
little man became an American citizen. I really fought back the
overwhelming urge to break out in the National Anthem...LOL We
retrieved our luggage and made our way through customs...which
much to our surprise consisted of us handing our declaration
paper to a uniformed person and we were free to leave. We came
around the corner to see 25 or so of our friends and family with
balloons, roses, and banners welcoming us home. Once again,
Grayson was amazing. You would think that he had been planning
this moment all of his life. He was completely happy playing
with his new friends..... laughing and running and having the
best of times. We were so appreciative to Amy Gee and Jenn
Reeder for capturing this time on video and pictures for us...
to Mr. Finney for making sure my parents and Aunt got to the
airport on time and for all of the other friends and family who
made our homecoming at the airport so incredibly special... I
cannot tell you how loved we felt.
We finally made our way to the van and began our very
interesting journey home... Mr. Finney had no problems getting
to the airport... but had some trouble getting to 66 to come
home... LOL... during this eventful trip home Tony was looking
at Facebook and noticed that several people were posting about
our arrival.. but had not been at the airport.... when Mr.
Finney noticed that Tony was on Facebook, he told him to get off
and get off now!!!LOL We were very tired and this contributed to
our not figuring out what was about to happen. We came the back
way home and as we approached our home.. there were tons of cars
lined up and tons of people waving signs... wearing glow stick
necklaces and hats I think...signs everywhere...
fireworks...(Thanks Uncle Mark) our car was written all over...
my favorite thing written on the car... on the window beside his
car seat... it read..."honk cuz I'm cute"...oh my there is going
to be a lot of honking going on!!! We could not have been more
surprised or felt more love from our neighbors and friends.
Words will not come right now to describe how amazingly blessed
we felt! It will truly be a night that we will never forget and
one we will be able to share with Grayson forever.
Grayson went to sleep at about 12:30 and woke this morning
around 5. He slept in his bed for the first time and loved his
room and all of his toys. He went back to sleep around 12:30
this afternoon and we woke him up around 4. He is so incredibly
beautiful!!! I went to Safeway to buy groceries early this
morning so that "Grandma Betty" could make her grandson some of
her famous gravy and biscuits. He ate until we just stopped
feeding him ... he loved it! Grayson is loving exploring
everything... opening cabinet doors...attempting to climb the
stairs...standing on the vent...he literally played catch with
Grandpa with the ball Grandpa brought him... he is also going to
love the beautiful, wooden toy box Grandpa brought him too. We
have our neighbors and family here so I will sign off for now.
Thank you all for sharing this wonderful, amazing time in our
lives... thank you again for the comments as we still enjoy
reading them over and over again. We love you all and most
especially thank you all for making us feel so overwhelmingly
loved when we brought our son home. Please enjoy the pictures of
our amazing homecoming! |
