We are now in Guangzhou, and it is very nice here! First of all,
the flight to leave Xining was 1000% better than the flight to
get there! Amen for that! There is a lot of construction here,
but it’s so warm and sunny… and humid. We didn’t do a lot of
this first day. We went for a short walk around, after ordering
Papa John’s for lunch. Then we went back to the room to color
and get cool… did I mention it was hot here? Then we went to
Lucy’s (a popular place around here with Americans because they
have our kind of food) for dinner. What’s funny is that I am the
only one who didn’t get American food… I got sweet and sour
chicken! I am just really enjoying eating Chinese food in China!
Tomorrow we have Leah’s medical exam, which will I’m sure
include some shots, although we don’t know how many yet. She has
to be immunized according to the US, but won’t have to repeat
shots she’s already had. Hopefully that will all go smoothly!
Since there wasn’t much today, I really only had one major
thought, and no it’s not long… you’re welcome! We are truly
enjoying this time in China, and learning about different parts
of China, and their culture. But the one thing I’m very excited
to get home for is SPACE!!! It is not the easiest thing trying
to parent 3 children in hotel rooms and airplanes. They all want
to play together and be kids, but when you are living out of
suitcases and confined to one room (two in our case now… the
bedroom is a separate room) it gets a bit, how should I put
this… hectic … chaotic… loud! For their sakes as much as my own
sanity, I can’t wait for them to be able to have our whole house
to play in, and the backyard, and our neighbor’s yard! (Watch
out Cristen, they’re coming!) It’s going to be so much easier
for them to be able to spread out a bit, and be able to run. But
as much as I’m ready for that, I am still not necessarily ready
to leave China yet. This leg of the journey will be very
different than Xining because this is where everyone has to go
before going back to the states. Therefore, there are lots of
adoptive families here, and it feels more like a celebration
before returning home, rather than soaking up all we could in
her home city / province to try to learn about her land and her
people.
