“Sometimes,'
said Pooh, 'the smallest things take up the most room in your
heart.” ~ A.A. Milne
Caroline is finally on China time, so we actually got up when it
was not pitch black out this morning! We had breakfast at
Starbucks this morning at about 9, and Juliette cried the whole
time we were there. We then went to purchase some silk dresses
for the girls at a store called "Jenny's Place." We found a
bunch of cute things, including matching jade heart necklaces
for Juliette and Caroline. We walked over to 7-eleven to get
something cold to drink and stand in the air conditioning since
the heat and humidity are unbelievably oppressive. We put
Juliette in the Snuggly for the first time today. As long as
daddy stayed standing, kept moving, and stayed outside all was
good! Through all Juliette's crying and fussiness today,
Caroline wanted to know whether she is going to "talk Chinese
words, or speak Bellport language!"
We left for the Police
Station at 2:30 to get Juliette's official adoption certificate.
We weren't there very long, and caught up with the other
American and Swedish families adopting this week. Once we got
back to the hotel, we washed up and headed back out to visit a
few more stores before having dinner at Lucy's. We were happy to
see the mother and her two daughters from North Carolina there
having dinner, as well as an interesting group we later learned
were students with teachers here from America to teach English.
Juliette cried a bit through dinner but loved little bits of
buttery grilled cheese, and ate most of a bowl of chicken
congee. Caroline brought a Haagen Das ice cream back for
dessert, and everyone had a bath. We're hoping Juliette's
sadness and fussiness gets better each day, as she adjusts to
everything. Everyone here is wishing big sister Alison good luck
and congratulations on her first day as a teacher! We know
she'll be awesome! Everyone has fallen asleep by now, although
we're still playing musical beds.
Tomorrow there are no
scheduled appointments, so we will begin our day with congee and
juice for Juliette downstairs, and head to Starbucks for the
rest of us! Caroline's new routine breakfast is a decaf coffee
and a big chocolate chip cookie! The people in there have gotten
to know us well and put out the big pitcher of "dairy" (no
distinctions of half and half or milk here...) when they see us
coming! We are having trouble sending pictures from here, so
check back through September 2nd for pictures if we can fix the
issue and get pictures up!
