ELLIE DAY!

What I have said, that will I bring about; what I have planned, that will I do. ~Isaiah 46:11

"'Mommy' She said it and I knew. She was mine. I was captivated. Because Mommy is forever.

It's such a powerful name. Mommy means 'I trust you.' Mommy means 'You will protect me.' Mommy is for shouting when you need someone dependable and for laughing with when you are excited; Mommy is for crying on and cuddling with when you are sad, or giggling and hiding behind when you are embarrassed. Mommy is the fixer of boo- boos and the mender of broken hearts. Mommy is a comfort place, a safe place. Mommy means you are mine and I am yours and we are family." (Kisses from Katie pg. 57)

She is PERFECT. She is BEAUTIFUL. She is wanted and she is claimed. She is loved, cherished and adored.

It was not an easy gotcha moment, nor a day filled with happiness, giggles and smiles. But it has been a VERY good day!

We walked into the Civil Affairs room this morning a little after 10:30. And there she was, holding her nanny's hand. She looked so little. So scared. But so brave. I knelt down to say hello, and I could feel and see her backing away. Bill was trying to get the camera out and also hand the TA and passports to the nannies so we could pick our baby girl up. It was all rather hectic, since we hadn't anticipated that she'd be there. Once that was all accomplished, I scooped up my baby girl, and the screaming began. And the back arching. And the thrashing. That along with her slippery silk outfit outfit, did not make her an easy girl to hold. But I can say this. At the very site of her and even throughout the wailing and thrashing, I fell in love with this baby girl as I have never done before. She felt perfect in my arms since the moment I first held her.

You know, it's so awkward in those gotcha rooms. We were a little late, and eveyone had their children by the time we walked in. The children were all quiet. Except for Ellie. So we've got the thrashing child with everyone looking on. Not a thing I could do to comfort this baby girl, whose world has just turned upside down. She pushed everything away that I tried to bribe her with. I put her down for a second, and she ran to her nanny's arms. And the nanny had her comforted in no time at all. Honestly, I was glad when we finally left.

As soon as we left the room, Ellie began to settle down, and when we got into the van, she completely shut down. And fell asleep in my arms. We then headed to Wal-Mart to pick up some diapers, formula and other supplies, and I wore her in the Egro during that time. She didn't fight it, but was just shut down and downright sad. She reminds me totally of Kate when we got her.

We got back to the room and have been there for the rest of the day. Ellie has not let out a peep all day (once the crying stopped) and has opened up very slightly. She still looks very scared. And does not like her postion changed. If I put her on her feet she won't walk at all. She fell asleep for a short while in my arms today and I loved every minute of it. She is a precious treasure. Her nannies said that she's introverted, and that is just fine with me. She is content to stay in one spot and holds and studies each toy intently. She is an observer.

SO here is the GOOD NEWS!!!!!!!!! She's a mama's girl. She cries when Bill tries to hold her. And yes, I am loving every minute of it. She wants nothing to do with our guide, Amy either. Which is good. She basically has just wanted to sit in my lap AND BE CUDDLED all. day. long. And I have loved every minute of it. We've had some nice eye contact, though sadly most of the day her little head has been hanging with her eyes downcast. She's relaxed in my arms and reclined back and allowed me to feed her a bottle. She's timid and scared, but she's definitely allowing me take care of her. I've even had her little head resting on my shoulder already. This took weeks for AC and Kate to do. So, all in all I would call it a very good day!

Ellie loves those little tangerines, and has eaten probably 3 today. And her nannies sent some steamed eggs for her, and she LOVES those. She has a darling little haircut, and her hair smells so sweet and GOOD. I think she was freshly bathed before they brought her. Her skin is in perfect condition and she's chubby with the most squooshable little thighs and kissable little cheeks EVER! She is perfect. She is ours. And God is SO very good.

Meeting mama for the first time
