First and foremost...
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALEXIS!!! We'll see you when we get back!
We went to church today. It felt like an early 1900s service.
Even if it was right in the middle of town. I think it was twice
as long, as it was in Mandarin and then translated into English.
Now I see how missionaries preach, constantly having to stop in
order to get translated.
Elena attended her first service and she did okay. This is all
new to her. John holds her little hands in prayer before eating
and she doesn't get it. Yet. She stares at us trying to figure
out what on earth we are doing and why we are not diving into
our meal.
Emma took us to a museum today. Yes, once again, we voluntarily
got into a taxi, and wondered why we keep doing this like fools.
I think we forget from one day to the next how bad it really is.
It is terrifyingly bad. We have yet to sit in a car with a
normal driver. I also understand NYC taxi drivers, now, since
they are all foreigners, they all drive like this.
The museum was small and we saw everything in an hour and a
half. And once again, the art of these people, the intricacy,
the patience, the beauty amazes me. Elena just likes getting
pushed on the stroller. She is happy that way.
Tomorrow is the consulate appointment. Emma and I got our paper
work together this afternoon. It's funny, she always sets up
appointments with me and asks me all the questions, probably
knowing John just showed up here to get his baby girl, and don't
ask him anything else, he doesn't know. lol.
Elena had a rough day today. It seems to come and go. Some days
she does pretty okay, and some days, like today, they are not so
good. I think this is normal as she is still grieving, confused
and tired. She wakes up, looks at me, looks around and goes back
to sleep, probably hoping this nightmare would go away. Bless
her heart.
I forgot yesterday's quote of the day!! We ran into Jim &
Valerie, looking quite desperate, pushing the stroller with a
mission. "We found a Starbucks!! It's like finding a bit of
heaven on earth!!"
And today's Quote of the Day:
Emma, after speaking to Elena: "She sure is stubborn." No
kidding. |
John and Samuel on steps in the museum
Samuel trying to get the ball out of the mouth.
Emma was laughing at him.
Elena LOVES getting bounced up and down steps.
My mom, Samuel & Elly in the museum hallway. |
If John puts her down, she needs him to hold her, again.
Look at that hair!!! :)
