Well, we are here in Guangzhou at the famous White Swan Hotel.
Our expectations were not that high (yes, I am spoiled), but
this is a very nice hotel with a resort-like feel. After reading
Chinese adoption blogs daily over the past year, it is somewhat
surreal to actually be here.
Our Air China flight from Beijing to Guangzhou was an adventure.
Again we were bused on the tarmac to our plane in full cattle
car mode. I never knew a jet way would be such a welcome site
when we arrived in Guangzhou. Food and fellow passengers on the
flight were also interesting, to say the least. The man seated
next to Dolores basically stared at her the entire 2-˝ hour
flight.
We met up with our travel group for dinner at Lucy’s, which
serves American-style dishes. Luke was in full cute, flirt with
the waitresses mode. Poor thing, by dinner tomorrow night with
four new Chinese daughters, he will no longer be the center of
attention.
I can already see that Shamian Island is going to be dangerous
on the clothing budget since we are here two weeks. Our guide
Cici has told us to pace ourselves and do lots of comparison
shopping and bargaining before making purchases.
We have Monday morning free until we meet up at 2pm for the ride
to the Civil Affairs Office to meet our daughters. Our next post
will be as parents of two children, Luke and Lilia. Mahalo ke
akua for the gift of this amazing journey to parenthood. |

Inside the touring vehicle that has been our transportation in
Beijing. On the way to the Beijing Airport - headed for
Guangzhou.
