About Lilia

The Referral Call

Lance got the call from Katie at Hawaii International Child (Adoption Agency) first thing Friday morning, July 6, 2007. Evidently the courier delivered the referrals the night before. Lance left me a voicemail that I retrieved while still on the tarmac in Kona. My Uncle Gerry was on the same flight and I was so happy that he was the first person I could tell about our new daughter. Lance and Luke picked our referral package up at HIC that afternoon. I couldn’t wait to get home that evening to finally see her sweet face. We were one of three families that received referrals from Yang Xi that day.

What We Know About Lilia

Lilia’s Chinese Name is Yang Xi Zi Qing. Yangxi is her surname, representing the orphanage and Yangxi County, where she is from. Zi in this case is the color purple and is a popular name they give the girls. We are told it means beautiful. Qing = Celebration.

Lilia’s recent medical information (as of July 12) notes her weight at 15 pounds and her height as 25 inches. They say she can now turn over freely and plays lying on her side with her right leg leaning against her left leg. They also report that she is able to crawl. Her personality is noted as “…tender, lovely and sociable. She loves to play with adults.” Regarding toys and activities, they say she loves outside activities, colorful toys and bells, plays with other children and listens to children’s songs.

Her initial report (written in May) said that she was:

● A deep sleeper, laughs aloud, knows her name;

● Is active, restless, fond of listening to music, quick in reaction, has a ready smile;

● Closest to her caretaker (versus other children or a cribmate).
