Today we headed out at 8:30 a.m. for Tiananmen Square and the
Forbidden City. After spending almost two hours in the Forbidden
City (we could have spent two days and still not seen
everything), our guide and driver took us to a local
Beijing-style neighborhood restaurant. It was crowded and noisy,
but the food was great. Beijing taste is so much different from
American-style Chinese cuisine.
We then went on a rickshaw tour of a Hutong district. Next stop
was a silk factory, then our final stop for the day, the Temple
of Heaven. After a long day of touring, we got back to the hotel
at 4:30 p.m. and took much needed baths before heading out for
Peking Duck, simply called roasted duck here in Beijing (duh).
Luke didn’t have any duck at dinner but thought the bao it came
with was marvelous. We all felt this was a great way to complete
an excellent three-day adventure in Beijing.
Off to Guangzhou tomorrow!

Still in Tiananmen Square, getting ready to enter the Forbidden
City

This young boy rang a gong every time someone entered the
restaurant. We were told it was good form to welcome customers
loudly. |
