GOTCHA DAY!
We have her! What a long day it was. We met in the lobby just
before 9 am. There were seven Holt families meeting
their children today along with two other families using
different agencies. It was a half an hour drive to the civil
affairs office.
When we walked through the doors there was one child already
waiting. He was from a different orphanage. It was neat watching
the families first moments. Then we filled out the necessary
paperwork. When I just finished Hope walked through the doors.
It was obvious that she already had been crying. They were taken
from their foster families this morning. The nannies took her to
some toys and tried to engage her but she started crying. We
waited patiently to see if we could go meet her. Finally the
nanny nodded her head and we approached. The nanny explained to
her that we were Mama and Baba. She started crying. I picked her
up and started pacing around the room. We tried everything,
food, candy, toys, water, nothing could get her to stop crying.
So I paced the halls for over an hour until it was time to go.
We weren't able to ask any questions. In the bus all the little
ones started screaming. Next stop was passport pictures, we were
able to get her to stop crying long enough to get a passport
picture without her crying. Then it was back to the hotel. Once
in the room we seen a different side of her. She played with the
kids, and was smiling and laughing within just a little bit. She
ate a good lunch of noodles. The kids then went down to the pool
and I attempted to get her to take a nap with no luck. The kids
came back and enjoyed playing with her for another hour or so.
Then we walked to the local Carrfour which is like a walmart to
get more supplies. We dropped them off in the room and then were
off to eat at pizza hut. Ordering dinner without speaking the
language is always a challenge. Somehow eventually we all got
our food. Hope had her first pizza and seemed to really like it.
So a few things we know about her:
She's beautiful (even more so in person)
She is potty trained and has used the toilet several times for
us already
She is tiny, just 22 lbs. and 18 months fits good
She's fiesty and will tell you when she doesn't want to do
something
She's very smart and can figure things out fast
She loves her siblings!
Now we are back in the room and trying to get her to sleep and
she is putting up a pretty good fight.
Tomorrow we will finalize the Chinese portion of the adoption. |
