Our first

Adjustments?... yep.
Very little sleep?... yep.
Sibling rivalry?...yep. Messy house?...you bet!
Colds and Flu?...yep (both American and Chinese versions).
Getting ready for the Holidays?...nope.
Would we trade it all for perfection? . . .
No Way!!

Our Elizabeth has been such an incredible
gift to our
lives and no it's not easy bringing an almost one year
old from the other side of the world into our lives,
but she has truly captured all of our hearts and
continues to delight and surprise us daily.
As of weeks 3-4 she is sleeping through the night --
every night, wakes happily, takes a 2-3 hour nap in
the afternoon, eats anything put in front of her, and
plays contently in between it all. We couldn't ask for
a better child! She is rapidly changing and we feel
like we have missed so much of her infancy. We credit
her Foster Parents in China for doing such an amazing
job of helping this precious child feel secure and
loved from the beginning.
Speaking of her Foster Parents, we were able to find
out their names and address in China and will be
writing them via "Blessed Kids". This is a service
that will act as a 'middleman' for us and facilitate
the delivery of our letter and photo's of Elizabeth
from inside China.
The first weeks home were a whirlwind of celebrations
and festive gatherings. Friends and family have been
so loving and kind to our Elizabeth and we are
grateful to have such an incredible network of
support. We will never forget those that stood by us
during bittersweet time of paperwork, travel and the
sudden loss of Susan's Father.
Elizabeth continues to show a preference for men and
is quite charming in doing so. She finally had no
choice but to let me into her 'circle' when Dave had
to return to work. It was me or nothing ;).. so
gradually I finally can say she knows I'm MOM! Mr. Mom
however gets a royal welcome from his Princess when he
returns home after long days at the office.
If John and Elizabeth are apart during the day for any
reason, John will usually tip- toe in and ask if she
is sleeping...He is extremely considerate of her. He
adores her and it appears the feeling is mutual. She
squeals when John walks through the door if he is gone
any length of time.
As we approached Christmas Season, we reflect on the
greatest gift, and how God sent his only Son who was
adopted here on this earth. The analogy is very
poignant to us this particular year for obvious
reasons. We are humbled as we marvel at how God has
entrusted these 2 amazing children to us. We continue
to ask Him for wisdom and guidance as we shepherd
their hearts.
We invite you to continue to watch Elizabeth grow...
Until next month... |
