About Ellen RuYu Elizabeth

"For this child I have prayed; and the Lord hath given me my petition which I asked of him."
~1 Samuel 1:27

We began our adoption process over a year and a half ago. After months of doctors appointments, collecting documents, and visits with our social worker, our papers were officially sent to China in June 2005. At that time the wait for a referral was 6 months. Well, just a few months later things began to slow way down. Fewer and fewer referrals were being sent out each month and there was a feeling of disappointment every time we heard of another delay. Yet we knew Heavenly Father was watching over Ellen and we learned to be patient and trust in Him.

Nearly one year after our documents were sent to China we received our referral. I was walking out the front door when I got “the call.” As the children gathered around, we learned about our little girl. We were dancing and screaming on the front lawn where Connor insisted on a group hug! Through shaking hands and tears of joy, I immediately called Jason at work to share the news. I’m not sure how much he heard with 4 of us talking at once on speaker phone! We drove right over to see Jason to share this happy moment together. I cannot express the joy our family felt that day!

Two hours later (which felt like a lifetime) we received Ellen’s pictures over e-mail. She is an angel! And we can’t wait to hug and kiss those lips and cheeks! We instantly fell in love with her and felt deeply blessed that the wait was finally over. How is it possible to love a child who we haven’t even met…? I’m not sure, but we do and we can’t wait to bring her home!

We learned more about Ellen when our FedEx package arrived the next day. Our documents told us that she entered the Children’s Welfare Institute when she was one day old. Her physical exam determined she was healthy and she has continued to grow and develop well. At 2 months old she smiled for the first time and at 4 months she giggled if the nannies played with her and screamed when she was mad. By 6 months she could turn over and enjoyed playing with noisy toys, especially a rattle. At 7 months she could move well in a walker and was said to have strong legs. At 8 months she could crawl freely and “talk” to people and objects. She is said to have had very good care and we are grateful for this answer to our prayers.
