Trip to China
All Days  |  Previous Day  |  Next Day

Hello Everyone,

Today was a travel day. We received all of our official adoption papers and Qian’s passport. We are going to miss Hefei and our guide, TingTing. She made us feel at home and was so helpful with Qian. She translated for us and prepared Qian for every transition. We also had many great conversations. TingTing has an 18 month old girl. She asked me, “Do your children eat chocolate and cheese? Do you give baby cold drinks?” She was so serious and when I explained that yes, we give our children cheese and chocolate, she asked, “how much? Just a little bit?” I said no, as much as they want. She smiled. Her family is very traditional and I’m sure this will be a topic of conversation at the dinner table. I also forgot to mention that China has a ‘letter’ day several times a year. On a designated day, Chinese citizens are allowed to voice their concerns or complaints in the form of a letter. They meet at a government building and bring their letter of complaint to be read. We saw this on the day we met Qian. (Had no idea!)

On a different note, for those who are wondering….Qian had transitioned beautifully. She is a typical five year old girl. She is independent and curious. She has her own opinion. She picked out a new pair of shoes and was able to express that she didn’t like green, but wanted pink. She gets excited when she does something well. She says, “good job!” She likes to play, mostly with the i-pad. She’s smart and learns quickly. She figured out how to play memory and beat me in our first game. She likes to tease her brother and blow kisses at the same time. She’s loving and a little mischievous. Our daughter was perfectly made and we can’t wait for everyone to meet her!

Good Night from Guangzhou –
Betty, Sam, and Qian
