Well, the plan to update everyone in a month or two became
sixteen months…YIKES! Where does time go?
The medical adventure turned out to be a 10 month process,
culminating in a diagnosis of Klippel-Feil for Sophie and a
legal age change for Opal. In the end, Sophie is deaf in one ear
and has severe hearing loss in the other, so she has hearing
aides and is doing great with them. Her webbed neck was actually
5 fused vertebra and her clef palate repair was excellent. Opal
appears to have a “whoops” in her file and the opinion of all of
the experts and specialists said she was at least 3 years
younger than her paperwork showed and so the age change was
necessary. She has grown over seven inches and her motor skills
are growing rapidly with physical therapy. Both girls are doing
amazing!
Both girls are adjusting very well and have claimed their
“forever family” as truly their own family. They are busy with
schoolwork, music classes, Irish dance lessons and speech. The
house is full of laughter, giggles and lots of craziness. Now
they are preparing to start piano lessons, do three dance shows
and welcome a six year old brother into the family in the winter
to come. Words cannot do justice to the adventure this past year
has been so we will let pictures try to tell the story…
Blessings To Everyone,
