Our Timeline
We began
our adoption journey in 2005. Wow, its hard to believe 4
years have passed by! Kassidy has been waiting for her
sister one half of her life!
January 2005- Attended our first information meeting with
Bethany Christian Services.
January-August 2005 Prayed for guidance. Shawn and I
talked about our desire to grow our family and considered
our options.
September 2005 Yes, we decided to move forward with an
International adoption from China. We submitted our formal
application to Bethany Christian Services. We just felt a
peace about adopting a daughter from China.
September 2005 February 2006 The paperchase was on! We
needed Crimal Backgrounds Checks, Child Abuse Clearances,
several meetings with our adoption worker for the
completion of our family assessment. Updated health exams
that required notarizations, FBI fingerprinting, copies of
financial information, wills, etc., completion of
education training classes, reading books relating to
adoption and attachment. All of our documents required
state certifications which required a trip to our State
Capital. We did not have valid passports so we applied for
those also. It was a crazy time and we wanted to work as
quickly as possible. At the time the wait for a referral
was approx. 10 months after Log-In Date. Therefore, we
expected to meet our daughter in early 2007.
March 2006 Our dossier (packet of all documentation
required for the China adoption) was sent to China. We
received our Log-In Date of 3/28/06.
Summer 2007 Still no referral in sight. Things are
taking much longer than expected. We are required to renew
our approval which required an updated Home Study and more
paperwork, fingerprints, medical exams, etc.
November 2008- Still no referral in sight. We are required
to renew our approval again. We are getting used to the
drill by now. We renew our I-600 approval and hope this is
the last time.
August 2009 Our fingerprints expire yet again and we
make the trip to York to have them updated hopefully for
the last time.
August-September 2009 We are preparing to receive our
referral and travel later this fall! Shelby is organizing
closets, preparing Tias room and trying to decide the
best route to baby-proof the house again. Shawn is trying
to keep Shelby out of the shopping malls and hoping to
revive his diaper changing skills. Our dear Kassidy is so
looking forward to having a sister around to help take
care of and play with. She also is looking forward to
having Tia fill the empty seat at our dinner table.
The Lord is my strength and my shield, my heart trusts in
him, and I am helped.
My heart leaps for joy and I will
give thanks to him in song. ~Psalm 28:7 |
