Today was a free day here in Guangzhou, so we slept in
until 8:30am! Heavenly! After some breakfast, we headed back
to Shamian Island to do a little more shopping. We finished
up just in time for a huge rainstorm. Taxis were in high
demand because of the rain and we waited an hour at the
White Swan to finally get in a cab. Then it took 45 minutes
to get back to the hotel. That was one LONG ride, as Louisa
was ready for a nap. At any moment, we feared the driver
would pull over and tell us to get out. Phew!
Once we finally got back to the hotel, we had to leave
immediately for a dinner cruise on the Pearl River. The
afternoon rain really cooled off the temperature in
Guangzhou, making for a very nice cruise. The city lights
were amazing. Many of the buildings lining the river and the
bridges spanning the river were illuminated with fantastic,
multi-colored lights. The lights on one building made the
building look like a lava lamp and another featured the five
mascots for Beijing Olympics. That was Avery’s favorite.
Today was the Moon festival in China, also known as the
Mid-Autumn festival. The festival always falls on the 15th
of the 8th lunar month, which is always a full moon. The
festival is a time for family reunions in China, when
families get together to watch the full moon, eat moon cakes
and sing moon poems.
Tomorrow, we will visit the American Consulate to get
Louisa’s visa, then we head to the airport to begin the long
journey home. We are very excited to bring Louisa home. |
