AND ONLY 26 HOURS LATER…
WE'RE HERE!
Now THAT was a long day. From St Louis to LA, LA to
Guangzhou, and Guangzhou to Beijing, we are finally settled
in the hotel. The long leg to Guangzhou was not bad at all.
We left at midnight, so everyone slept a good deal of the
way. Avery’s internal alarm clock woke her up precisely at
7:30am Central Time, ready to go to school! But she was
content with a snack and some ipod time. Thank heaven for
the ipod, High School Musical 2 and Hannah Montana!
After landing, we breezed through customs and immigration.
Our CHI guide, Dennis, was not scheduled to meet us until
Beijing, so we were on our own to navigate through the GZ
airport. It was only slightly intimidating. Fortunately, we
have our own Goodwill Ambassador in Avery. She got some
double-takes and smiles from just about everyone that saw
her. Must be the blond hair. One man actually pointed at her
and said, “California!” Too funny. Of course, she is
completely oblivious to it all. Just another day in the
life…
After checking into the hotel, we ventured out for
beverages. We went to Carrefour, which is like a Super
Wal-Mart with absolutely everything you could imagine,
including live seafood. And little ventilation. Kind of
smelly. But we’re desperately fighting the urge to lie down
and sleep. Charlie and Avery just went swimming and then
we’re going to head out for dinner. Sooooo tired. Blissfully
happy.
