August  2018

Three years later, there have been many changes in Juliette Song’s life! Juliette settled in and had two great teachers that her big sister Caroline had, to help her adjust and prepare for school. We were very happy to have the same teachers that Caroline had when we returned from China in 2009. She assumed her role as the littlest sister of the family quite nicely! All of a sudden, her little hair sprout went from sticking straight up to falling over into a pretty head of hair like her big sister Caroline! We blinked, and our little Juliette was turning 3, and on her way to being a flower girl at her biggest sister Alison’s wedding! Juliette’s time was spent being mom’s little buddy. From volunteering at Caroline’s school, to bridal salon visits, she was a very busy bee! Juliette Song was baptized in the Spring of 2016, and growing into her own little person, having her own unique tastes of food, toys, and activities. Dinosaurs and spicy foods became two of Juliette’s favorite things. She is now the proud owner of tons of dinos, large and small, that roar and growl! We have seen her relationship with Caroline blossom and now the two are inseparable playmates and companions for each other. The backseat of the car now has two little buddies for every outing and adventure. As we waited for Alison’s wedding day, we worried that Juliette might not make it through the whole wedding evening. On the contrary, she lit up the dance floor and outlasted everyone by the end of the night! It was touch and go as a flower girl, but when it came right down to it, she mustered up her courage and walked down the aisle with Caroline by her side. It was an exciting day for the whole family.

The family adjusted to having one married sibling and life settled down a bit, allowing for some fall family adventures. Juliette had her first visit to the Vanderbilt Planetarium and got into the whole idea of apple and pumpkin picking. She even mustered up enough courage to ride on a horse all by herself! Juliette continued to have her early intervention teachers and became better at expressing herself. In addition, her vocabulary grew in leaps and bounds! Juliette turned 4 on June 9, 2017 and all of a sudden, she was able to walk her favorite of our four dogs, Bentley, whom she refers to as “Blimbly.” Our family has four dogs, but for some reason, Blimbly is Juliette’s favorite little furry buddy. While the older siblings were once again busy with school, mom and dad took Juliette and Caroline on some weekend adventures antiquing and visiting Peddler’s Village in Pennsylvania. At the end of the summer, Juliette and Caroline tried their hand at being little models for mom, posing among the waves on the beach. At 4 years old, Juliette had her own vision of who she wanted to dress up as for Halloween. She chose to be a pirate princess, a perfect counterpart to Caroline’s Medieval Maiden.

Juliette started off the new year with surprise tickets from dad for her, Caroline and mom to see Shen Yun at Lincoln Center. She was a perfect little lady all dressed up and mesmerized by all the pretty dancers and costumes. Mom captured the perfect moment of Juliette taking on the big city with Caroline, because it reminded her of the bridge in Hong Kong! As we moved into the Spring of 2018, our family began house-hunting, so we would be in a new home for Juliette to start Kindergarten in the fall. Amidst house hunting, our little Juliette turned 5! Now when you ask her how old she is, she holds up one whole hand!!! Juliette experienced her first big move from the house we brought her home to, to a whole new place to make memories as she continues to grow. We worried she would be upset, but she took her cue from Caroline, even picking out her own room with the biggest closet in the house! (She is now charging a dinosaur a month for closet space!) I think we are on the track to an interesting life as Juliette continues to grow and blossom into her own unique person.
