ONE MONTH WITH EMMA

Emma….what can I say about this courageous little girl who has opened our hearts a bit wider and enlightens us daily. She already loves her sister and looks out for her, but let’s talk about Emma. She is smart if she sees something done once she will mimic it and usually gets it right. She already knows her name and responds to it as well as her Chinese name…so we usually say Emma or Emma Jing Jing.

She loves to laugh and has a deep guttural laugh that will make an entire room start laughing and once someone else starts laughing she will turn it on even more. She is trying to say more…she says Momma very clearly and just yesterday said Daddy but it is not exactly Daddy, but you can tell what she is saying. She says Bubbles, Bow, Book, Bye Bye, Hi, More, Love you, Cat and Hot and No.

To see Emma and Ellie Lu run to Daddy when he comes home from work is priceless…she runs like a little dear very gently and lightly…really sweet. She then will hug Daddy at his knees and nearly bring him down.

She is saying bye bye and blowing kisses and waving when she leaves a group of people. She has gone to a few people and oh she now likes the cats almost too much. She at times terrorizes them by chasing them or pulling their tails or fur, but all in all she has done well with them.

She loves her bath especially alone or with Ellie Lu. She plays with all the toys and likes to wash herself. She lays down and swims or acts like it. She likes to blow bubbles and can now. She also loves the after bath, putting on lotion and getting ready for bed. Our bedtimes are getting better, but I have to say at first they about did me in…the crying the backtalk from big sister, the days with no naps or late bedtimes….I just kept praying and finally last night I had a good bedtime routine with them, no crying and everyone was asleep in about 45 minutes. We still have room for improvement, but at this point anything is an improvement.

She surprises us at time with what she will try to eat and most of what she won’t is generally due to texture or her palate. She even has eaten an apple cut up, loves ice cream, can eat 8 chicken nuggets or more, loves a plain McDonald’s cheeseburger and even likes Momma’s Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream. She loves cold milk, water and anything Momma is drinking including Chai Tea.

Emma loves everyone, but especially loves cuddling with Momma and I have to say she is the best snuggler. A nap with her wrapped around my neck and clutched under my arm is something. We can both sleep about 3 hours and she is just precious when she wakes up. She loves her thumb…either one and also likes a “B B” which Ellie Lu has showed her that cloth white diapers are quite delicious. She has also experimented with a pacy once or twice.

She is now jumping which she could not do at first, she runs wide open after Cissy and just loves life. Her tears and acting out are rare now. She has gained over 5 pounds and just really has adapted and bonded into our family so well. We love our Emma and can’t wait to see what the next few weeks and months look like for her.

Her surgery is scheduled to repair her palate and modify her lip and she will also have tubes placed into her ears which she will likely have into her teen years. We are looking forward to having this behind us and seeing how her speech continues to improve and watching her learn and grow in the next few months. She likely won’t need additional surgeries until she is 5 or so. Thanks for your love and support…adding to your family is always an adjustment…no matter how you do it, but rest assured it is so worth it, your heart will grow and it will feel so right and so full. Our family has surely been blessed with Emma.
