BYE BYE BABA

Hi everyone. Today was a little sad for all of us as we said goodbye to Gregg for another 9 nine days! Ethan was sad, even when Veronica explained to him we would see him soon after we all took a plane ride. Emma and I were also sad. But being MacLarens (from the Greenberg chain), we went to lunch and all was better……

Before Gregg left we had a fun morning. First we went to a silk factory, and that was interesting. Gregg also reluctantly let me purchase a hand made embroidered scenery in silk. I think its gorgeous. And it completes my hopes for “souvenirs” – a piece of jade jewelry as part of the tradition, cloisonné as the local craft for Beijing , and a piece of silk art. Plus the kids have their traditional clothing, and we all have chops with our names in Chinese characters, so I feel we have some good representations for all of us when we get home. Maile – if you’re reading this, we also picked up a kite for Amelie – hopefully it is the type you and Alan had seen at the Forbidden City .

Afterwards we went to the Olympic area where we were able to see all the buildings we saw on TV. The Bird’s Nest is far more impressive in person, and the area has a long walkway more like a boulevard. We included a few shots here.

More importantly, however, we hit a number of milestones today: Ethan kept kissing me on the lips, he is blowing kisses, he played pat-a-cake, and while he was going through the album we made for him, he sat there singing “mama, baba, mama, baba, mama, baba….” It was very cute.

Today we’re taking it easy – the skies are blue outside, but it is very hot, so we’re keeping a quiet afternoon, and the kids are playing together.

Tomorrow we’re heading to the aquarium and maybe the Temple of Heaven. We’ll write more then.

Sending our love, Dawn, Emma and Ethan
