Waiting for Referral
March 2007
 |  November 2008

MARCH 2007

It is now the end of March 2007. March came in like a ferocious Lion - 21 beautiful inches of glorious snow fell on March 1st and 2nd!

Some background information about the adoption…

Jen and I started Addison’s adoption process during the month of May 2004, which really doesn’t seem that long ago at times, but at other times it seems like it’s taking forever. However, we know that God has chosen us for Addison, and we are just waiting patiently for her to find us, knowing that it may take some time.

We are almost 2 years into our planning for Addison’s adoption, and we are now waiting for our referral. Just to give you some perspective as to how far we’ve come, our Log-In-Date (LID), which is when our information (dossier), was received (logged-in) in China is February 22, 2006. Our dossier is now in the holding area and will eventually be reviewed again. When it is our time, a referral will be made by matching our dossier’s information with a beautiful child’s paperwork, whom we already know as Addison. God’s plan for us is already in the works.

Then what?

The referral process:
When a referral arrives at Bethany-International (in Grand Rapids) from CCAA, it is a celebration of joy! The referral typically arrives among a group of referrals of Bethany families across the U.S. whom all share the same LID.

Then, Bethany International sends an email to all the social workers whose families are in this "batch of referrals." We will then get "the call".... We will find out Addison's given name, gender, given date of birth, the orphanage and province Addison called home. This will be an awesome day filled with excitement and emotion!

The international office reviews the paperwork and the referral is overnighted to Denise, our social worker. We will then schedule a time in the next day or so to review the referral and sign the acceptance documents! The acceptance documents are then overnighted back to Bethany-International.

Once Bethany-International has received all of the family’s acceptance documents, they are forwarded back to CCAA. This prompts the preparation process for travel invitations and then travel.

This was the last email that we received, 3-6-07:

Bethany Christian Services continues to send many dossiers each month to CCAA! The program continues growing and growing... just like the timeframes. As of today (3/6/07), CCAA has not updated their website to confirm LID of dossiers through the review room. Since this message was written (on Tuesday) the CCAA has updated their website to indicate that dossiers with LIDs through March 31, 2006 have been reviewed and child referrals have been given to families with LIDs through October 24, 2005.

The current wait time from LID to referral is approximately 18 months. The time frame continues to increase because so many families from around the world, submitted dossiers last fall.

Addison’s Aunts and Uncles…

Jen's brother and his family

Uncle Jay, Aunt Sheila and cousins Nathan and Elizabeth moved back to Tracy this past fall from Minneapolis. Jay currently is farming and working on a couple of wind energy projects. Sheila, who was a manager at a Target store, is trying her hand at being a stay at home mom. She keeps busy by taking care of Nathan and Elizabeth. Nathan, who is turning 4 this summer, enjoys everything that deals with John Deere tractors, being outside, and farming. Elizabeth, who is going to be 2 this summer loves looking at books, feeding her babies, and sitting in her favorite chair – which of course is at the dinner table!

Jason's sister and her family

Uncle Brian, Aunt Kay and cousins Emma and Mabel now live in the capital city of North Dakota. Brian is the Sports Information Director for the University of Mary, America's Leadership University. Kay is currently a domestic engineer helping ease the transition for everyone from Mayville, a one stoplight town, to Bismarck (metro population 99,000). Emma is in second grade and loves school! She enjoys ice-skating and playing soccer and youth baseball. Mabel will go to kindergarten in the fall of '07. She enjoys playing house, cleaning her own room, helping mom bake and folding towels!

Jared and Kyla

Uncle Jared and Cousin Kyla live in Sherburn, Minnesota. Jared works at a local business in Fairmont installing Windshields in cars along with other automotive glass. He enjoys pheasant hunting in the fall, especially coming over to Tracy to stay with us in his "suite" at the Kainz Lodge, and we enjoy having him. Kyla is in the 1st grade and loves going to school! She enjoys reading, math, and playing with her friends. Kyla is looking forward to summer! Jared has a black lab named Sadie. Sadie seems to enjoy coming over to visit Cooper and go hunting every Fall as well.
