HENAN PROVINCE

We left this morning about 10:00am and arrived in Zhenghou at 11:30am. It was exciting finally meeting the other families in our travel group. There are 11 families (about 25 people, not counting the children). This is the 1st time Frank and I have been in a group and it is quite a large group. I have followed the files of several of the children as they moved down the waiting child list. I can’t tell you how awesome it is to now meet the families that are adopting those little ones. Many of the families found their children right before the child’s file was to be returned to China. Many have various special needs but all seem to be perfect for the families they are joining. No coincidences, right??

The adrenaline has kicked in. We meet our girls in just a few hours. We received updates a little while ago. We will receive Emily 1st. We will meet her at the government offices along with the other families. Olivia will arrive at our hotel about noon. She has a 4 1/2 hour tip by bus. The update states the Emily tends to be rather active but well-behaved. She is passive and shy but is well loved by the nannies and the other children. It also says that she likes keeping her bed and cupboard very neat and tidy. The nannies describe her as cheerful and adorable, but quite loud! Oh my!

Olivia’s update states very cleverly that she has a temper. She will bang her hands on the table and stomp her feet when she is angry but can be pacified by giving her food she likes. She is eating well but still takes formula from a bottle. She is described as being very active. Her foster mom says she is “very afraid of old woman with white hair”. I wonder if she has seen my picture! Olivia loves her bath but hates wearing shoes. She likes visiting her neighbors and riding on a motorcycle. (If you could see how the Chinese drive, you would understand why that last statement was more than a little disturbing!) The motorcycle is OUT Olivia. The mommy’s heart couldn’t handle it.

We love the families we are with and can’t wait to meet their newest additions. Some are first-time parents and others like us have been down this road before. We have several that have brought their previously adopted children back with them. Very different families, circumstances, and backgrounds, but tonight we share a common bond. We all know that this time tomorrow we will finally be holding our long awaited children. Please continue to pray for the families and their new little ones as we all adjust to the changes a new addition brings.

We love and miss you guys! We’ll talk to you soon and let you meet your new sisters!
