OATH TAKING CEREMONY, SWAN ROOM AND MORE SHOPPING . . . OF COURSE

We slept in a bit today as we were very tired, the tea from Lucy’s is keeping me up a bit or I should say waking me up a bit and it is catching up with me. Also little peanut is not too happy with her crib and when she turns it wakes her up and she is back in bed with us; before we know it feet in our face or she is sideways….sleeping may be interesting once we are home. The buffet breakfast is getting a bit old…I am craving salad even for breakfast anything green would be good. After breakfast we had our exit meeting and while I was in the meeting Mel took Emma and Phin (our travel mate’s son) to the Swan room to play. We checked in when we were finished and they all were having fun. I got Mel and Emma settled with lunch and a nap and me and Sharon were off to shop a bit before our trip to take the oath.

We found some great things and I spied a store to make me and Mel a new Chinese shirt for CNY. I also dropped off Emma’s chop information at Michael’s and found a few other trinkets. Then we were off to the consulate with our little tiger. She did not get her nap in and oh my goodness she was tigerish, snakeish and even dragonish. Thank goodness all the families here have seen her same behavior at one time or another from other children here. I have not read a book and I have read them all nearly that has prepared me for what she can and does do at times. You can’t even anticipate the yelping scream before it happens or the whack of her arm of whoever has made her jealous. I hesitate to write about it but at the same time…it is what is happening and hopefully one day she won’t feel threatened and therefore won’t act out in these ways. She has a very special sweet side but just when you think ohhhhhh she can really wipe you out with something. The big trigger continues to be no….she won’t hear of it.

Our bus was full to the consulate as I suppose several agencies went together to charter the bus, the driver “wove” his way to the consulate just prior to me getting a little car sick from all the turns. You can only take your passport in…or I should say that is what they tell you, but if you take your camera the guard with check it and then when you come out you can take a photo...just a hint! While waiting to take the oath our Emma proved again to be part tiger, scratching a little boy I was talking to, hitting his adoptive sister Shao Shao and biting me and I forgot to mention the screaming. Good lord if they had offered double shots I could have used one and pardon me if I am offending anyone, but for ummmm 45 minutes she would not go to her Daddy and insisted on me, but yelped and screamed if I did not allow her to just flatten the place. I am sure we are “that” family others with blog about…I suppose there is always at least one…right!

We finally take the oath, no fireworks went off, somewhat more painful than ceremonious with a 2 ½ year old and then we navigated our way back out to the bus and we endured yet again a tiger episode where she nearly insisted on hanging from the bus curtains and when I scolded her she lost it in her yelping high pitched scream. Thank goodness me and Mel have a good sense of humor as otherwise we might have cried at this point…we were all hungry, hot and at least 2 of us were almost deaf from her screaming. So we finally settle her down and we then arrive back at the Swan…I gather a few things in the room she again has a tiger episode and we then exchange money and are off to be fitted for shirts…we gave in and gave her some crackers and made it thru the fitting. Off to Lucy’s…she ate like a little man…French fries, quesadias, meat from Mel’s shish kebobs and drank like a champ…she did toss her milk about 4 feet wetting us and another table, at one point I thought she would rip the table cloth off. After dinner Mel took her back to our room and I met up with Sharon to do the last minute shopping…a painted bottle of Emma at Susan’s….we had tea with Dong. He had this little setup that looked more like a place where someone might pass the pipe, the tea was good but at some point mine disappeared and I am not sure if it was poured back in the community pot or what. Then off to A Gift of Love to order an engraving for Grammy Purcey…they are going to take a photo of Pop Pop and Grammy and Ellie Lu and add Emma so that Grammy with have this engraving of Pop Pop and his girls….it was very emotional ordering this, but I am sure it will give me and Grammy Purcey great comfort and remind us of memories in the days and weeks to come.

Back in the room we all prepared for bed and literally fell into bed before 9 pm and slept most of the night. As the time to leave nears I feel a sadness of taking Emma away from her homeland…of all that is familiar chopsticks, rice, congee, noodles the language, but in time she will settle into our family and her new home and when that happens it will feel good for us all. This journey has been very rich with love and faith and surprises too…I wouldn’t have missed it for the world and wouldn’t have had it any other way.

One year ago today a phone call and a photo changed our lives and now we are here to bring our daughter that at one time we never thought was possible home…how amazing is that…only thru Him could this even happen..
