Today was the Official Adoption Registration and Notary
Paperwork. We headed down to the building that we received
Eliana in yesterday. We met with a woman who had us put a red
thumb print over our names on the paperwork that Tom had filled
out yesterday. Eliana had to sign the documents with her right
foot print. We met with the notary, who asked us a series of
questions, as he transcribed the answers onto a document.
Finally, we had our first official family portrait taken for the
paperwork for Eliana’s adoption.
We headed back to the hotel and on the way we stopped at a local
grocery store. The store was on the second story. Joy, a mom in
our travel group was chased up the stairs by an older lady and
scolded in Chinese that it was too cold for flip flops. The lady
found it necessary to explain to Uncle Zhou that he really
should be doing something about that, because Joy could not
understand the lady. Zhou explained to us that we were being
stared at because people in the local grocery stores do not get
to see adoptive parents very often. There were many of the
products that we can get back in Ohio, familiar brands and
flavors, you could tell that they were what you needed by the
style and color of the packaging. Some of the packages were
written in both English and Chinese, but very few, so Zhou had
to look through a few of our items to help us chose the one that
we were looking for. Then it was back on the bus to the hotel.
Eliana had her bottle of Chinese formula for lunch and some
Cheerios. Chinese formula is a little sweeter than American
formula. We were a little tired since it was our first outing
with a baby. We chose not to leave the room for food, so Tom and
I ate Oreos for lunch. They were from the previous day on Tom’s
crazy adventure to Wal-Mart. I keep trying to encourage him to
tell the whole story to you, but he said another time.
Once Eliana woke up, we played and bonded the rest of the
afternoon. She is quite a chatterbox and performer. She loves to
make fish faces, do raspberries, and laugh. She can say mama and
dada, but I am pretty sure that she is just saying that and
really not attaching people to them yet.
We had group dinner in the Food Street Restaurant at our hotel.
We were all whining a little bit about trying to choose food for
ourselves, so Uncle Zhou again came to the rescue and ordered 10
plates of food. Many of the plates were special orders not
appearing on the food street. The sweet and sour pork, cashew
chicken, eggplant, and the lily were AWESOME! Eliana likes
steamed eggs, which are basically eggs whipped, placed in a cup
and steamed.
When we came back to the room, we played for a few minutes, had
a bath (which was more like a shower for her), and ate a bottle.
Then off to bed at 8 p.m. we went. Eliana only woke up one time
at midnight and Tom was able to get her calmed down and sleeping
again. Eliana slept until 6:04, she is our little alarm
clock….until tomorrow….I mean today….which day is it????
Your guest book comments are encouraging and so much fun to
read! Thank you!
