SAFARI PARK ZOO AND RED COUCH PHOTOS;
FAREWELL TO GUANGZHOU
Today was bittersweet for us; it was our final day in Guangzhou
and it is almost time to head home. We have thoroughly enjoyed
our time in China but it is time for it to come to an end. We
took a subway from the station under our hotel and visited the
zoo; the kids enjoyed getting to see the animals up close but it
was very, very hot.
After some rest and recovery time back at the hotel we took a
taxi to the island one last time to take the traditional red
couch photos at the White Swan hotel. This is a ritual that most
if not all adoptive families do, and it usually comes at the end
of the trip. Callie was very excited to get to wear her new
quipao, in her favorite color pink, of course. She was so proud
of it and would have cheerfully posed for hours if I had let
her. The other two were a bit less excited about the whole
affair and required a bit more, er, persuasion.
After photos we enjoyed one last meal at Lucy’s, complete with
one last glass of their wonderful iced tea. We will miss that
tea. We shopped for a few last minute items and took a taxi back
to the hotel. Tomorrow a van will pick us up and drive us to
Hong Kong, where we will spend one night before boarding the
plane that will take us home. I think we may have set some sort
of record for busiest adoption trip, but we have no regrets. Six
cities, four hotels, four trains, three subways, countless
taxis, and a whole lotta walking in 17 days but we wouldn’t
change a thing and we’re coming home with the best souvenir of
all, our Callyn Hope. This will be our last post from China, and
our first few We’re Home updates will be posted on our
blog,
since Joe and Jennifer leave tomorrow for China to bring home
their own China blessing. We wish them a wonderful trip and
can’t wait to follow their journey. We will resume posting home
updates on MyAdoptionWebsite after their return. Thanks to all
who have supported us on our journey and left comments in the
guestbook. We treasure each and every one and I know Callie will
too. |
