WE ARE HOME

We had a relatively smooth-sailing trip home. It was the typical “Amazing Race” type of episode at the airport in Hong Kong - getting through ticketing, immigration, security, jumping on a train, running to the gate before the final gate call with 3 toddlers, 1 child, 1 very helpful teenager, 3 semi-functioning adults, and 1 adult who had been up sick all night long and looked greener than broccoli (not mentioning any names…Liz Grabowski - poor thing). Fortunately we were a group that packed extremely light and by this portion of a trip, we had a pretty solid travel/moving routine.

The flight home was for the most part quiet with just a small section of turbulence. Poor Bayley does not like take offs, landings or turbulence. However, it is very sweet in that during each of those times, she would hold my hand and arm very closely as she stayed buckled in her seat belt. I happily provided comfort to her when she was afraid and I was so delighted that she looked to me for that feedback.

Our homecoming was once again one that I will always remember. Bayley has taken to her siblings. Once we all arrived home, Bayley eagerly grabbed her family photo book that we had sent her while she was in China and she turned each page pointing out each family member in the book and matching that to them in the flesh. I felt like I was watching our little girl realize one of her dreams- coming home to a family! Another moment I will always remember was when she went to Bethany and inspected Bethany’s little arm. Bayley first touched it with one finger. Bethany said, “Yep, that’s my little arm.” Next Bayley literally grabbed Bethany’s little arm with both hands and gave it a loving squeeze and a sweet kiss. Bethany laughed and said, “Yes, I love my little arm too!” Bayley just squealed with delight. She went on to inspect Braxton’s prosthetic and Bella’s AFO (ankle foot orthotic). She is settling in and my prayer is that she will come to realize that truly limbs are overrated!

We will keep you all posted as we seek medical care for Bayley and as she reaches new heights and experiences her new life!
