It is time for us to come home. And we are so
very ready. Ava began a fever last night of
101*. This morning she could not keep her
breakfast down and the Mommy instincts kicked
in. I insisted that we take her to the clinic
here in the hotel. I suspected and ear infection
and the nice doctor confirmed what Mommy already
knew. He gave us antibiotics and ear drops. I am
hoping that she won’t be in too much pain for
the flight. Lord help us if she is. 15 hours to
LA, yikes.
Ava and I have worked on Roy’s pronunciations
and tones all week. He finally can say “xie xie”
or thank you with out the Chinese asking who
Gigi is. The funniest was this morning in the
clinic. Roy likes to imitate Darth Vader and say
“I am your father” in Chinese with a Darth Vader
voice. The only thing is…with his tones, he is
saying “I am your poo poo” in that rich deep
voice. The Chinese (and Ava and I) are truly
amused.
The last official appointment we have today is
with the US Consulate. We will swear to take
care of Ava as our daughter, never to leave her
or abuse her, always to love her and be her
family. Don’t you think all parents should be
required to take such an oath? I am going to
dress her in her new pink pearls for such an
auspicious occasion. We are nothing but proud to
be her family.
Finally, we are off to the airport to wave
goodbye to China for now. But, China is a part
of us because it is a part of Ava Claire. We
must bring her brothers here so that they can
have a taste of this beautiful country and her
rich culture. Tsi chen, China. Ni hao, America.
Women ai ni, both….
