The city of Nanchang has really welcomed us. We started out with a trip to the SuperWalmart (sorry Jean). Being 5’9” and blonde made me stand out like Yao Ming in a Georgia Walmart. They tried not to stare, but couldn’t help it. I won some of them over with my Mandarin and Ava, but others just didn’t even know what to think. One woman even gave me her Amway card after I showed her my card explaining who we are and why we are in their beautiful city. Ryan and Adam could be rock stars here. They love their pictures when we show the locals Ava’s ge ge (elder brothers). We weren’t aloud to take photos in the Walmart. When we asked why, our guide told us “intellectual property”. (Nic aren’t you proud?) Roy had explained the concept on the flight from Beijing on Sunday. She’s quick that Kathy.

Later we took a stroll down a local residential/mixed use street. Very old school. There were people sitting outside playing cards, children laughing, chickens, ducks, and rabbit running around. Maybe dinner, tonight. We delighted the locals as a real novelty. We stopped in a couple of shops and found a few lovely young ladies who were dying to practice their English. They thought Ava was beautiful and told us Buddha would bless her and our family. Now we are almost covered. Tomorrow we visit a Daoist Temple…we are making the rounds, eh?

Roy had another massage. But the best site was a beggar coming up to him and watching Roy scream bu yao! Bu yao! Don’t want! Don’t want! Except it sounded like Bu Ya! Bu Ya! Which is what he and the boys shout in celebration. Like a high five.

Tonight at dinner, Ava started standing up and singing to get everyone’s attention. Boy did she love it when everyone turned around to watch. She is rivaling Roy for the spotlight. She also loves the bath. The only thing is she likes to stand up naked and laugh at herself in the mirror. Like I said, she rivals Roy.

Last, we had a tailor come right to the hotel. They fitted us and will have a gown made for me for the Grand Masque by Thursday. What a country. What a people. I can’t believe what blessings Ava has brought us already. She is just the perfect baby for us. All of the babies are very different, and each seem to be just the right fit for each couple. Amazing how that works. Tomorrow we will visit a park, a temple, and the farmer’s market. Love to all.
