We're Home

We have decided to use our additional hour of "sleep" this weekend to updated our blog, which we haven't updated since we returned home. Some may think that we have not updated because things aren't going so well but its just the opposite!! Everything is going so well and we are a happy and busy family of four. We have included some photos of our three months home but here are some of the highlights:

• Caroline has decided that we should NOT return Katie even though for the first month she would drool as we drove by the post office thinking if only….. At one point she told us that she could get us discounted shipping for Katie's return home (yes, she is our daughter!). Now they just adore each other and Caroline just loves to come home from school and play with Katie. She also loves to bug her enough just so that Katie yells back because Katie has a funny temper.

• Katie has adjusted so well. She has slept through every night since we returned home (even the first night). While she sleeps she does wimper some nights so we still go to her bed and snuggle with her but Kevin and Kathy are usually fighting about who will go in (this won't last long, right!?)

• Katie also has some very adult eating habits and taste. She much prefers a Panini to chicken fingers, loves spicy Chinese food and Thai food, refuses a sippy cup and expects other children to do the same. We'll see how long it lasts.

• Katie had surgery for ear tubes and some dental work in September - again all went well and she was playing on our swings by 2:00 that day. Kevin and Kathy were on the second bottle of Chardonnay at that point!

• We took the girls to Disney for Kathy's work in early October. We low-keyed much of the park activity and stayed by the pool, etc. We had some concerns about how Katie would react to getting back on a plane but she was content with her Dora backpack and did not seem upset by the journey. Caroline was very patient in not pushing us to stay at the parks when Katie was pushing her limits (usually after two hours).

• We celebrated Katie's Christening in October as well. Kathy's sister was godmother and Kathy's godson (and nephew) was godfather. Katie did not like wearing her dress but Mom said - that's life! It was so much fun to have our family with us for this special day (we missed you Stephen who is U of Scranton) but it meant so much to us to how much love Katie has in our family and neighbors.

• Katie's English is exploding - she has funny expressions like "Oh my God", "What happened?" and some other four letter words that Joe or Jennifer would not like us to publish on their site. Hey as long as its English, right?!

• Katie started nursery school on October 20th and seems to be thriving. There are two other girls in the class and one of the girls came home from China about 2 years ago and was born 5 days before Katie. She is from Guangdong. The funny story is that my father had met her mother many times and was trying to connect us and then - bam - she is in Katie's class. What a treat for them to get to know each other!

• For Halloween, we did not push Katie to wear a costume but we told everyone she was Dora (you'll know why you see the pix)! We thought she would be scared to go trick or treating but she fit right in and had no problems liberating candy from each house we visited.

We have been so blessed by having Katie in our family. She has just fit right into our family. She loves to whisper in our ears and sometimes there is an "I love you" in her whisperings - maybe not but to our ears it sounds like it! We promise to update more often. We continue to send our prayers of thanks to her foster parents who obviously cared for her so much. We came across a picture of Katie on the SWI web-site and we wonder if the woman in the picture is her foster mother. We may never know but its certainly a picture that we will treasure forever.

Enjoy the pictures.

Love,

Kathy, Kevin, Caroline and Katie

We found this picture on the
